117 NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF AUGUST 8, 1904. NR 3 McKINNON & REED.--Black face comedians and dancers. This is a rather ordinary act, neither of the men having a specially good idea of comedy. They do not do anything however that is really bad, and the dancing at the finish is fairly good. It does no particular harm in an early spot on the bill. 15 minutes in one. NH 3 J. WALTER THOMPSON and his two dogs "Yankee" and "Dixie". These dogs have been very well trained and do quite a clever routine of work, making it an attractive act of the kind. 18 minutes full stage. KR 3 MILLARD BROS.-- Banjoists, vocalists and dancers. Two young men in a neat makeup who first do a song, then go to banjos and then finish with singing and dancing with a change of costume. It is a pleasing act from a three show a day standpoint. 11 minutes in one. AR 3 HOYT & WALLER.-- I was not able to get a very good idea of this act this afternoon for on account of the heat the audience was dead clear through. It is a man and a woman in a singing and dancing act in one, and my impression of it is that it is only going to be fair. The man is in eccentric makeup and the woman is neatly dressed. It did not seem to me this afternoon as though their efforts were going to reach the audience to any great extent, but the act is entirely clean and free from anything offensive, and it may be that under more favorable conditions it will be better than indicated this afternoon. 14 minutes in one. GYH 3 EMPIRE TRIO.-- Two men and a woman in a straight vocal selection. I booked this act on the recommendation of Mr. Lovenberg. They are all three possessed of excellent voices and sing together in perfect harmony. When I heard them sing this morning at rehearsal I thought the act was going to be about as strong as anything we have had in the vocal line in a long time, but somehow or other they did not seem to do exactly what I expected of them in the afternoon performance. This too, may have been occasioned by the heat partly and by their nervousness--this being their first appearance. One thing is certain, every one of the trio is a most excellent singer and it is a mighty pleasing act and should make a big hit. 15 minutes in one. NH 3 TOLEDO & PRICE.-- A man and a woman in a contortion act, and I think the man is about as clever in this line as any performer that we have had. He dresses in a sort of an outing suit and has a way of presenting his different tricks that is exceptionally convincing. The woman does some quite clever contortion work too, and it is a mighty good act from start to finish. 12 minutes, full stage. GRR 3 DIXON & HOMES.-- Dixon is of the old team of Dixon & Lang, who used to play ten, twelve, and fifteen years ago, and I booked them in fear and trembling for fear that the act might be oldfashioned as I have never had an opportunity to see it. They both have excellent voices and make two or three changes of character. During their act they do the light house scene from "Shore Acres," and I think go better than any other performers who have attempted it. It made a strong hit this afternoon. The act is thoroughly all right every where. 17 min. in one. GYH 3 FITZGERALD BROS & ROMA.-- Two men and a young girl in as neat and pretty a club swinging act as we have seen here in many days. The girl is young, and from the front does not look to be over twelve or fourteen years old, and she is the first woman club juggler that I have ever seen doing the intricate juggling moves as introduced by men. The whole act is a very pleasing one. 11 minutes, full stage.
