123 (M. J. Keating) Boston Show, Week of August 22, 1904. Stereopticon, 3 shows, 12 mn. in 1 -- Usual collection of interesting home and foreign views. Fadettes Orchestra, 2 shows, 60 min. full stage -- Very good program but did not go so strongly as usual. Dixon and Holmes, 3 shows, 18 min. in 1 -- Two men in character songs, a bit of monologue by one of them, and the lighthouse scene between the Berrys' in "Shore Acres." Went very well throughout and closed fairly strong. It is a good 3-a-day act, but so far as this house is concerned would only stand for a very early spot in the 2-show section. Burton's Dogs, 2 shows, 18 min. full stage -- These animals were not working very well today as it was their first appearance since their arrival from Europe. The act has improved much, and now counts among the best of its kind in the varieties. The tumbling and high leaping dogs are as clever as any animals we play. Harry Brown, 3 shows, 14 min. in 1 -- Lively "real coon" singing comedian, next in rank to Irving Jones and Ernest Hogan. Stronger in the night show than in the afternoon. Edwin Stevens, 2 shows, 23 min. open in 2, close in 1 -- Presenting his well known artistic entertainment, entitled, "A Night Off", which is too well known to the circuit to need any explanation from me. Went a trifle slow with the afternoon crowd but will be all right at night. William H. Pascoe, 2 shows, 23 min. full stage --This act was described from New York last week. It bristles with "My Gods", "The devil", and other alleged army expressions which did not impress themselves so much upon me when I heard it at Proctor's and in the Union Sq., but it seemed a little raw for this house, and I will request him to tone it down. A suggestive bit of humor about a man having married a woman and discovered afterward that she had a wooden leg will be eliminated entirely. Biograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1 -- One of the best lists of pictures we have had for some time, especially in the comedy line. It is really the laughing hit of the show.
