167 NEW YORK CRITICISM: WEEK OCTOBER 3rd, 1904: THE HOLDSWORTHS: NR-3: D-1. 14 mins. Singers, dancers and banjoists and duettists. Splendid act for an opener. NAOMI ETHARDO: NH-3: Full stage: 9 mins. A young woman equilibrist and acrobat. This young woman makes a fair appearance. Does a few tricks and what she attempts she gets away with and pleases. A good act for the early part of the program. FIALKOWSKI: NH-3: Drop 1, 15 mins. Presenting the same act as before: imitations of birds, animals and musical instruments. It has been sometime since they had the pleasure of witnessing his performance, and they rather enjoyed his number. VAN FOSSEN & McCAULEY: GRR-3: Drop 1, 11 mins. Blackface singing and talking comedy. An excellent act for an early place. MARION LAMONT: NH-2: Drop 1, 9 mins. Regret to say this woman has no voice and a bad personality. Have cut her down to two songs. PROF. BURTON: GHR-2: Full stage, 15 mins. Performing dogs. They were away off in their tricks, paying no more attention to Burton than a dummy. The leaping dogs redeemed the bad part of the act and he closed strong. BRANDOW & WILEY: ER-3: Drop 1, 12 mins. This young colored couple are taking the place of John Birch, who failed to materialize. They were accorded a reception on their appearance, and only played the house four weeks ago and went better than before. One of the hits of the bill. ECKERT & BERG: GHR-2: M. & W. 24 mins. Open in 1, 3 mins. and close in one, 4 mins. Own set presenting an operatic singing comedy. They are both good singers and the act is finely dressed, containing numerous laughs. Mr. Berg's piano solos were strongly applauded. The act was well received, and a novelty for our program. FINDLAY & BURKE: GHR-2: M. & W. Full stage, 17 mins. Burlesque travesty. Full of good laughs, and made a big hit. WILLY ZIMMERMANN: YRR-2: Drop 2, 17 mins. Impersonator of celebrated composers. The audience to-day knew no more of the characters he impersonated than he does of dancing a jig. His peculiar mannerisms of the various selections played, caught the house. We could not allow Hammerstein's impersonation here, although he could add that to his selections in the other houses, where the act should go very strong. CHAS. KENNA: GHR-2: Drop 1, 26 mins., Presenting the same act as before, "The Fakir". He has some new material and went fairly well considering his place on the bill. JESSIE MILLWARD & FRANCIS CARLYLE: HHR-2: Full stage, 28 mins. Nothing can be said too good of Miss Millward and Francis Carlyle's little dramatic offering here this afternoon,- "A Queen's Messenger", in which she portrays a Russian spy. She is clever, and Mr. Carlisle very capable. The act is the most artistic of any we have ever had. YORK & ADAMS: YHR-2: Dr. 1, 17 mins. Hebrew impersonators. They always manage to have some new material, and considering the place they have on the bill they made them laugh from start to finish. ZENO, CARL & ZENO: GKH-2: Two men and a boy. Full stage, 7 mins. Aerial trapeze. Very good. BIOGRAPH:- 21 mins. We are featuring the "Launching of the Connecticut", showing five views, each in different positions. A new idea and a good picture. One picture shows the workman smashing the bottle after Miss-------- failure. "The St. Louis Exposition", a panoramic view. Excellent photographically. "The Convict's Escape", an English film, full of good laughs. "The Pig that Came too Late", Laughable in spots. S.K. HODGDON.
