178 KEITH'S THEATRE, CLEVELAND, OHIO. WEEK OF OCTOBER 10, 1904. ALBERTINE MELICH. "European trainer, presenting a novel and interesting bird specialty". This act is about on a line with all other acts of that calibre. It is the first one of its kind played in the house since its opening and goes fairly well. Time, 12 minutes, full stage. BAILEY & MADISON. "In a grotesque knock-about comedy act." This act was criticised by all the papers here as being too rough for this audience. I had some of the stuff toned down for the evening performance, when they went much better than they did in the afternoon. The act is a good one of its kind. Time, 15 minutes, including about three minutes in one. JOHN & BERTHA GLEESON & FRED HOULIHAN. "Potpourri of dance and music." This act was well received here, as this is the home of the Gleesons. Can't say that the piano addition to it has improved the act very much. Houlihan's playing is nothing to brag of. Time, 16 minutes, full stage. Cannot close in one. WOOD & RAY. In "A Bunch of Nonsense". This act is also familiar to every house on the circuit. Was fairly well received though some parts of the act are rather slow and tame, however, their finish was good, which is really the best part of the act. They opened in one and closed in one and if necessary, can do their whole act in one. Time, 19 minutes. PROPSER TROUPE. Billed as "Phenomenal Acrobats". Just a fair act. They have got a hard role here this week following the Bard Brothers and Hassen Ben Ali's Arabs. The act is nothing out of the ordinary and I would not care to play them again. Time, 10 minutes, full stage. SABEL JOHNSON. A soprano of considerable ability. Her selections are well chosen. She gave a selection from "The Singing Girl", then an Indian Kick-a-poo song, then a Medley, finishing with "Coming Thro' the Rye" which went big. About 13 minutes in one. LUCIA & VIATE. In a novel wire specialty. A fairly good wire act. The girls make a splendid appearance. Can't say that anything they do is marvellous, however the stuff is good and the audience seem to like them. Time, 8 minutes, full stage.
