195 CRITICISM OF SHOW KEITH'S NEW THEATRE, PHILA. OCT. 24TH THE GREAT JANSEN-3-Man, assisted by a girl. A mighty good magic act. Carries some bright and new paraphernalia, and has some very good tricks. Better than half the two show acts. Could go anywhere on the bill and make good. Very good act. 17 mins. C.D.F. 3 Close in one. CARLO'S DOGS-NH-3-Man does some good equilibristic work on a pedestal and ladders. The three dogs do a few small tricks. It is not a dog act, but a balancing act. Good three show act. 11 mins. Gar. 4 ED. GRAY-Nh-3-Monologue. Well known on the circuit. Has some new stuff. Always goes well here. Good three show act. 15 mins. in one. THE VALDINGS-3-Two men, double swinging trapeze act. One of the men does some cabinet posing that does not amount to much. The trapeze work is not as good as the Maginleys. All right for three show section. 11 mins. Gar. in 4. PIERCE & MAIZEE-GRR-3-Man and woman, vocalists, with a little dancing. Well known. Always seem to fill in acceptably. Lady has some new and beautiful costumes. 13 mins. spec. drop in one. POWERS & FREED-NH-3-Two men, musical act, playing mandolin, guitar, glasses, bells and xylophone. Very bad to-day on the music. Couldn't keep time, and worked like amateurs. Not even good for three shows for this house. 15 mins. C D.F. in 3. Close in one. SMEDLEY, ARTHUR SKETCH CLUB-YRR-2-Man, woman and two children. Sketch "The Little Mother." Kitchen scene and "beer," "growler," etc. No food in the house; father a drunkard and a brute; mother pleading and crying. There's a little comedy scattered through the sketch, mostly introduced by the children. A scene from "Romeo and Juliet" is fairly well done, and received some applause. Altogether, not the kind of sketch the audiences here go crazy over. Yrr is too much money. 22 mins. Kitchen in 3. GOLDEN GATE QUINTETTE-GSR-2-Four men and a woman, real coons. A real lively singing and dancing act. Full of life, ginger and action, and seemed to greatly please the audience. They did not want to work in one, but had to. 17 mins. in one. PROSPER TROUPE-MYH-2-Two men, two boys and two women. Corking good acrobatic act. Full of life, ginger and speed. They do all sorts of ground and lofty tumbling, and the women are as good as the men. 9 mins. Gar. in 5. EARLE & EARLE-GYN-2-Two men, banjoists. Dress in white satin knee breeches and white wigs. do some trick stuff that is good. A very good, high-class banjo act. They say King Edward liked it--so it must be good. Went well here. 12 mins. in one. CHASSINO-GHR-2-Hand and foot silhouettist. Simply great. Nearly all of his work was applauded. Every bit of it was intensely interesting. 12 mins. Full stage. GUS WILLIAMS-GNH-2-Dutch monologue. Has some new stuff. He had no talk to follow, and went very well. Laughter throughout. Good act. 15 mins. in one. FRED BOND & CO.-MRR-2-Three men and a woman. Sketch "My Awful Dad." Well known on the circuit. Good comedy act, but he should get something new that is as good. Always seemed to please the audiences here, for they appreciate high-class comedy. Good act. Plenty of laughs. 25 mins. C.D.F. in 3. THREE CRANE BROS.-YRR-2-"The Mudtown Minstrels." Too well known for comment. Good comedy act. 20 mins. in one.
