213 Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., week of November 7, 1904. (Charles Lovenberg, Manager.) The show in the big section is all right and the acts individually are all right and acceptable in the three a day end, but that part of the show lacks life. We didn't get a single laugh during the first hour and a half of the show and one or two of the acts are not quite as good as we ought to have going on in the late three a day section. Chinese Johnny Williams. This man always goes very poorly, in this house, and today was no exception. In view of the fact that three a day material is very hard to get and we needed an act it was all right to put in to open the show, and fill time but the act is very bad nevertheless. 16 min. open in three, close in one, (but his whole act can be done in one) 3 shows. The Maginleys. Same trapeze act they have always given us which is acceptable in an early place. 11 min. full stage 3 shows. May Evans. Whistler and vocal mimic. Fair three a day act. 9 min. in one, 3 shows. Newell & Niblo. Straight musical act. Fair. 18 min. in two, can be done in one, 3 shows. Carlotta Delmar. Lady bicyclist. This woman is rather good from the three a day standpoint. 11 min. full stage. 3 shows. Pierce & Maizee. This is a very neat little song and dance act and had it gone on one-half an hour earlier probably would have gone quite stronger; not quite good enough for the later place on the bill, but better than any of the acts in one which preceded it. 13 min. in one, 3 shows. Leroy & Clayton. In "Hogan of the Hansom" which they have done here before and which should be replaced by something new. As the audience was aching for a laugh and being in a comparatively easy spot on the bill they went first rate but will not draw us any money in the house. 26 min. full stage, 2 shows. Chas. Kenna. "The Fakir". This man has a unique monologue which he is presenting for the second time over the circuit and which went rather strongly with the audience this afternoon. 20 min. in 1, 2 show Powell's Marionettes. This is the most elaborate act, of the kind, we have ever had. It does not contain the comedy which Holdin's did but has a greater number of figures and some very elaborate scenery and electrical effects, notable feature of which are the Serpentine dance with the pictures thrown on the dancer and other various evolutions just as one sees the human dancer perform and the live dog which is introduced and is put through some tricks by the Marionette clown. This is a very attractive bit and the primatic fountains and transformation scene are really beautiful. The act is bound to create talk and draw money. 14 min. full stage, 2 shows. The Brittons. Practically the same act they have formerly given us and which was well accepted although they were in a harder place than they should have had, on account of Miss Laura Millard not being able to appear, the reason was that she was very hoarse, so I put these people on in her place and they are hardly good enough for it. 12 min. in one, 3 shows.
