221 Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of November 14, 1904. (Chas. Lovenberg, Manager.) The show is a satisfactory one although rather quiet. It lacks hilarious side splitting comedy although nearly everything makes good, in a way. Powers & Freed. This is an inoffensive little musical act, good enough to open the show and fill time. 15 min. open in three, close in one, 3 shows. Al. H. Burton. Stories and songs. This fellow has some pretty good material but his personality is somewhat of the bar-room type. Probably, with a little more experience he will develop. As it is he is all right for an early spot. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Valdings. Trapeze and ring act and muscular exhibitions in a cabinet. These men work quickly and do some pretty good tricks, but their work lacks finish. From a three a day standpoint it is a fairly good act. 11 min. full stage, 3 shows. St. John & LeFevre. Man and woman in singing and dancing act, and some imitations by the woman who is by far the cleverer of the two, in fact, I think she could do a better act alone than with her partner. Fairly good. 17 min. in one, 3 shows. Sa Vans. In the same acrobatic comedy act they have always given us and which was acceptable to the audience today. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Scott & Johnson. Colored singers, dancers and acrobats. these men would be all right in a little earlier spot, any where I have placed St. John & Le Fevre. They are the best of the three a day acts in one, that I have, however I am obliged to use them in a place on the program which they are not good enough to fill. Considering the salary and that they do three shows, they should be rated as good, but not depended upon for an important place. 14 min. in one, 3 shows. Ed Reynard. Ventriloquist. In an act almost entirely new, and the greatest novelty, in the way of ventriloquil acts I have ever seen and the audience were not slow to recognize that they were getting something new with merit. This man is entitled to all the credit in the world. 21 min. full stage, 2 shows. Lotta Gladstone. She went pretty well today but not as strong as before. She has some new material which is not as good as her last years stuff. At least twenty-five per cent should be chopped off of her salary, when she might be rated as good. 15 min. in one, 2 shows. Mabel McKinley. There is no doubt, in the world, but what Miss McKinley will draw her salary into the house this week but in order to get it she must be worked up in advance which we took care to do here. That she makes good for her salary is not to be dreamed of, for a moment, from the standpoint of merit or ability; and it is one of those acts that we can only afford to play once for the salary. Am very glad I have got her for this week but I don't want her again excepting at about 1/3 the salary. 13 min. full stage 2 shows.
