Boston Show, Week of Sept. 4, 1905 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 5 min. in 1--Usual list of interesting home and foreign views. John C. Meany and May Anderson, 3 shows, 15 min. in 3--In the comedy singing and dancing skit, "Going to the City", Not much of any real merit in the act, but nevertheless did fairly well for an opener. Charles and Florence Gragson, 3 shows, 16 min. in 1--Well-known singing and dancing team. The woman flats horribly and their dancing is the only real merit of the set. Does very well for an early sport in the 3-a-day division. The Alpha Trio, 3 shows, 12 min. full stage--Two man, one working straight and the other in eccentric makeup, and a woman, in hoop rolling fauts. The men do practically all the work, the woman being a mere filler-in. Excellent act of this sort for the 3-a-day division. Can be booked for a return for this house. Marie Laurent, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Ballad singer. Her voice is of fair quality, but very limited in range. Not of sufficient value to keep her in mind for a return. DeWitt, Burns and Torrance, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage--In the clever aerobatic comedy specialty, "the Awakening of Toys". Well-known over the (elrealt?). Scored heavily with the holiday audience, getting laughs and applause all through. Should be given a rest before a return. Jack Gardner, 2 shows, 17 min. in 1--Blackface monologue comedian, parody singer and musician. The principal merit of the parodies which went tremendously with the holiday audience. His monologue is fairly bright and his musical work funny. One of the applause hits of the show, although I hardly think, with our everyday audience, he will keep it up. The Tobins, 2 shows, 15 min. open full stage, close in 1--two pretty and becomingly costumed young women playing banjos, xylophones, trombones, bamboo bells, etc. they did not seem to appreciate these people until their bamboo bell playing and then they caught them and went off to big applause. I think during the balance of the week they will show great improvement. May Duryea and W. H. Mortimer, 2 shows, 23 min. full stage-Well-known entertainers in the farcical sketch, "The Imposter". Laughed at and applauded all through. A capital sketch of this sort for 2.45 (vor?) this house. Sallie Stembler, 2 shos, 12 min. in 1--well-known singing comedienne. Did not go nearly as well as I thought, but will without doubt get them tonight. The Mischievous Children plenty of laughs. Of special interest to women and children. T. J. Gorman and Estelle West, 3 shows, 15 min. open in 3, (close close in 1, if necessary)--Comedy singing and dancing skit, "A special meeting", well-known over the circuit. Did very well for the early 3-a-day action. J. W. Harrington, 3 shows, 12 min. in 1--Dialect mimstic comedian, Put this man in in place of Ed Hallen who did not show up or even send word. He is just a fair entertainer but I would not recommend him for any of the other houses. Comment:-We opened today at 11 o'clock dividing the day into three distinct shows. The show is a good holiday bill. Tomorrow the bill will be run as follows: J.W. Harrington, Gorman and West, The Gregsons, Alpha Trio, Marie Laurent, The Tobins, Duryea and Mortimer, Jack Gardner, Berzac's Circus, Sallie Stembler, Harry Gilfoil, Murphy and Francis, Dewitt, Burns and Terrance, Kinatograph and Meany and Anderson.
