NEW YORK CRITICISM-September 18th, 1905. 40 TOM BELMONT:--Vocalist and Imitator:-Some of his work was strongly applauded. Did not go strong on his finish, but no doubt it was appreciated. BRAZIL & BRAZIL:-Man and woman: Acrobatic Comedy: Comedy end of it does not amount to much. Acrobatic work is alright as far as the early place is concerned. 10 min.-full stage. MARIE LAURENT:-Young Lady Vocalist:-Just about passes. A little off on the high notes. Needs more training. Don't care to have her again. 11 min. in one. GORMAN & WEST:-Man and woman in their comedy:-"A Special Meeting:" I think this act went better to-day than any other time we played them. They changed it a little which has improved the act. Received quite a number of scattered laughs. Excellent for the 3 per day class. 17 min. full stage- RICH & HARVEY:-Black-face, Talking, singing and dancing:-Talking does not amount to very much. They make up for all the bad defects on the dancing which carried them through. 16 min. in one--3- FADETTES WOMANS ORCHESTRA:-Received a wee bit of advance applause. The selections were all strongly applauded. The last number could have been encored two or three times, which shows that the audience greatly appreciated the music. A number of complaints have been made by those standing as to the length of this act which is 37 min. Will arrange to cut them down to about 25 min. and I think the act will go much better. GEO. W. DAY:-Black-face Monologuist:- This man has some new material. He got quite a number of laughs all through his act and made a big hit on one of his parodies. I think he went stronger to-day than ever here before. 19 min. street in one -3- THE GREAT SALERNO:-Juggler:- The first American appearance. This man handles all light properties, and while some of his tricks have been seen here before, he has a rapid manner in doing his work, which calls for a big round of applause. He does a little bit of balancing which is greatly appreciated. He closed his act juggleing parts of Lamps which changed color, making a very pretty effect, thereby secured a big lot of applause.on his finish. 19 min.-full stage-2 show their interest right along unto the finish. A little too late down here on the bill for them. Makes quite a hump in the show. 24 min.-full stage- 2 shows MATHEWS & ASHLEY:-In their Talking Comedy:-"A Smash-up in Chinatown:" They carried their own drop which represents a street in Chinatown at night. Rather effective. One protrays a dopy cab-driver and the other a Hebrew. They open with a new line of talk which got a few scattered laughs, but did not by any means make a decided hit as was reported in the Quaker City. The Jew singing pardies to his partner's straight verses is the strongest thing in the act. 21 min in one - 2 shows BERZAC'S CIRUS:--Four Ponies and a Donkey:- The work of the Ponies was excellent. Some of tricks are new and never seen here before. The donkey riding man one big scream from start to finish. A mighty good act. Its going to creat some talk. 15 min. -full stage- 2 shows KINETOGRAPH: -- "The White Caps." Chasing picture.Very good photographically.
