New York Criticism--Oct. 9th, 1905 --::(2)::-- CAMPBELL & JOHNSON: 2 men. Both doing the comedy end. Some of the work is very good and the comedy is excellent. One of the men does a somersault from the stage over the footlights in the center of the aisle, thereby creating a tremendous laugh, which I am a little afraid of, it being rather dangerous. The act as far as the trick work is concerned is the same as the Three Merrills. 15 min. - full stage- 2 shows VERA KING: Stories and Songs: The best part of this girl is the pleasing smile she has. She is not strong enough here. With the holiday crowd to-day, her stories fell flat. Should be in the three-show class. Cut-"Liar"--"Devil"--16 min. in one HAL DAVIS-INEZ McCAULEY & CO. 3 men and a woman. In Edmund Day's one-act play:--"Pals". Well known over the circuit. Although the act was seen here before, the comedy and the sensational finish went fully as strong as the last engagement. Received four curtain-calls on the finish. 21 mins.--2 shows JA. THORNTON: This man was in prime condition this afternoon. As always in this city he got an enthusiastic advance reception. His material is all new. He got them from the start and held them to his finish. I really believe he gave us the best act we ever had. 22 min in 1 MERIAN'S PANTOMIMIC DOGS: One big hit. Continuous laughter throughout. Received two curtain-calls. 11 min. -2 shows. KINETOGRAPH: "The Opening of the Baseball Season of 1905-New York and Boston" Quite appropriate for this season in the year during the World's Championship Games. Picture rec'd. a big applause. "The Interior of Creusot's Steel Foundry" Very interesting. Some parts of the film is bad photographically, but however it pleases and is instructive. "Rescued by Rover" This picture is English, and is quite novel. It is a chasing picture but off the ordinary. The dog does the chasing alone to find the child. Very good.
