Cleveland Show week of Oct. 23. (H. A. Daniels) CAMPBELL & JOHNSON--Comedy bicyclists, both men doing the comedy. One of the men does some acrobatic work. Very good opening act for this house. Went very well this afternoon with frequent applause. Wood in 4. 13 minutes. WINONA WINTER--Vocalist, billed as the Alabama Rose Bud. Sang three songs, gave a few imitations and closed with a little ventriloquil work. Just about strong enough to hold down this place on the bill. Received a little applause. 13 minutes. Drop in one. FOY & CLARKE--Sketch, "A Modern Jonah". The sketch is thoroughly good throughout. Sketch has been comented on before. Very good act for this house. Cut out "Women raise Hell". 16 minutes. R. J. JOSE--CAlifornia tenor. Well known on the circuit. Received some advance applause on his entrance. Dick's selections this time seem to lack life and he did not go as well as I have seen him go. Mayh go beetter tonight. Drapery in one. 12 minutes. FIVE PIROCOFFIS--Four men and one woman. Comedy juggling act styled after the Agoust Family. These people are much more versatile than the Agoust Family Their juggling is much better and of greater variety. The act is not dressed as well but seems to please just as much. Some of the individual work was extremely clever. A very good act. Palace in 3. 8 minutes. HOEY & LEE--Hebrew comedians. Made quite a hit with their opening song. Their parodies went very well indeed. Came near being the laughing hit of the show. Drapery in one. 17 minutes. COLONIAL SEPTETTE--Act is well known on the circuit. Four men and three women. Instrumental musical act, with a little singing that is weak. While the act went well, it did not go half as well as I expected and was far from making a hit. The audience seemed very cold to the whole show and this may account for it. Special scenery. 23 minutes. Open and close in one. OVERTURE--Of all places on earth for an overture, this is the worst. We find it impossible to strike the Colonial Septette and set Merian's Dogs on the close in one of the Septette. 3 minutes. MERIAN'S DOGS--Well known as the unusual dog act in vaudeville. Special scenery. 13 minutes. Good act. COMMENT--The show is a disappointment. It looked well on paper, but does not play off well. This lacks life and ginger. The music seemed to be off and the vocal acts are not strong. There are some new people with the Septette. Their singing is bad. Their instrumental work was off color this afternoon, but may improve tonight. Foy & Clarke's stuff did not work well and altogether the show was ragged throughout. The show ran short fully 15 minutes.
