New York Criticism--Nov. 6th, 1905. --o(2)o-- STALEY & BIRBECK: Received a big lot of advance applause. Act went fully as strong as last week. Compelled to take three bows on the finish. 9 min.-fuoll stage- 2 GEO. CATLIN and the CHINATOWN QUINTETTE 4 men and a woman: Act consists of Singing, Dancing, Imitations and Baton Juggling. Catlin's Chinese Impersonations are very good and went exceptionally well. The singing does not amount to much. Just about got by on the dancing. Baton Juggling is excellent. Strongest part of the act. Presume they are breaking the act in here. This place is entirely too strong for them. Will have to move them up earlier. 14 min.-full stage- 2 shows NICK LONG & IDALENE COTTON: In their comedietta:-"Managerial Troubles." Well known over the circuit. Act consists of imitations, etc., closing with a burlesque. They start off a little tame. Managed to secure some applause and several laughs. The act is not strong enough to hold them in this place. Quite a number left during their performance. 23 min.-full stage- 2 shows BILLY VAN: Minstrel Man: This man has some very good material. with a peculiar way of delivering it. Managed to secure quite a number of laughs and held this place down in great shape. 18 min. in one- 2 shows CABARET'S DOGS: First American Appearance: Very pleasing canine act. Dogs are small and thoroughly trained. One of the best acts of this kind we ever had. The dogs all work quick and as all foreign acts, perfect, although they are not strong enough to close the show. 12 min. -full stage- 2 shows KINETOGRAPH: "An Impracticable Journey." Comedy. Good. "The Tsar of Russia- His Officers and Troops". Good, especially at this season. "Down on the Farm." A chasing picture. Good. N O T E .:-- The small end of the show is good, which is the best we had for a long time. Compelled to change the entire show around on account of the Chinatown Quintette and Long & Cotton. Believe the Lew Durand Trio will make good over the circuit. Staley & Birbeck was the applause hit of the show. The show is ordinary although pleasing. Probably run better after re-arrangement.
