New York Criticism--Dec. 4th, 1905. -----ooOOoooo------ LA BELLE: Comedy Tramp Juggler: Well known over the circuit. Received a few scattered laughs with a little bit of applause on the finish. Act is alright for an opening. 17 min. close in one about three minutes-3 THOMAS MEEGAN & CO. 2 men and a woman. In a comedy:-"On the Q. T." The idea is the troubles of a newly married couple. Thomas Meegan portrays the character of a colored servant. Does it very well. Act is a little slow on the start-off. Received quite a number of scattered laughs and held the attention of the audience throughout and is thoroughly alright for three shows. 24 min.-full stage- 3 shows. JOHN F. CLARK: In Songs and Stories. This man works in full dress. He has a rather rough appearance and lacks finish. Most of his material is entirely new. He was the applause hit of the show up to this time. He is alright for three shows. 19 min. in one- 3 shows T O T O: First time here. The musical mystery. Act opens with a mechanical figure seated on a chair playing a zither in an accompaniment to a lady singing, who has a very mild but sweet soprano voice. The next selection is played by TOTO on the piano with the lady playing the zither. The applause after each selection was very light, showing that Toto is not acceptable. 12 min. drapery in two- 2 shows BAILEY & FLETCHER: Two men. Colored. Singing and dancing. Well known. Excellent singers and dancers. Act is full of life and ginger. Big applause on the finish. 14 min. in one- Three shows O'BRIEN & HAVEL: (Miss Effie Lawrence) In their well known comedy:- "Ticks and Clicks." One laugh from start to finish and went just as strong as when last here. Received two curtain calls on the finish. 24 min.-full stage- 2 PICCOLO MIDGETS: This act has improved since last here. One of the midgets does comedy. Act well known. Strongly applauded throughout. 13 min. open in one about four minutes- 2 shows LEW HAWKINS: Blackface. Although this man's material is all old, he managed to get them with him on the start-off and held them all through his act. His parodies are new and went very strong. 15 min. in one- 2 shows "The Bishop and the Burglar." An English chasing picture. Very good. NOTE: - The show on the whole is fairly well balanced. No great headline acts or novelties, but pleases and will hold its own for the week.
