Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of Dec. 11, 1905. (Charles Lovenberg, Manager.) The bill this week may be classed as good although it sags a little in spots. In the main, however, I feel confident that it will give satisfaction. 122 Theo. & Camille La Jess. Contortionists. Good act for the early 3 a day section. 11 min. full stage, 3 shows. Louis Grant. Whistler. Very acceptable 3 a day turn. 10 min. in one. Edwina Mercier. Character vocalist and dancer. This girl has a pleasing personality and gets away with her work in good shape. All right for this section. 11 min in one, 3 shows. Chris Smith & The Two Johnsons. This is one of the very few Negro turns that do not "land" in fact they are very un-funny. Their songs are not catchy and their singing is not very good. Simply got by. Open in 3, close in 1, 3 shows. Brothers Durant. Comedy trapeze act opening with an airship scene, something of a novelty for the three a day section and all right to play once, but the comedy of the alleged funny man is very deplorable. 16 min. in full stage, 3 shows. La Valle Trio. Violinists, vocalists and harpists - three women. They do not play with any great degree of skill and although straight musical acts are very popular in this house, these folks got very scant applause. It really belongs in the 3 a day section. 14 min. in 1, 3 shows. Milt Wood. Dancer,- although he opens with one song which is merely a help to kill a little time. His dancing is remarkably good but his act is extremely short, so very short that it would be inadvisable to take him out of the 3 a day class, although his dancing, in itself warrants him better consideration. 7 min. in one, 3 shows. Julia Kingsley & Nelson Lewis. In a comedy sketch entitled "After the Honeymoon." They got a great many laughs, due principally to Mr. Lewis' funny personality. At the price, it is a very funny act. 20 min. full stage, 2 shows. Gus Bruno. Face artist, and dialect story teller. This man went very strong indeed, in fact made a hit. He makes a few funny faces of such characters as "Happy Hooligan" "Sunny Jim" etc which are quite laughable, and tells some good stories in the dialect of Irish, English, Negro, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, etc. His dialects are simpy perfect and the audience quickly recognized that fact,-his stories are also good. I am changing places with him tonight with Glenroy, who hardly held up his spoy on the bill. Bruno is playing for me at [GRH?[. At GYH I would consider him cheap. 15 min. in 1, 2 shows. Truly Shattuck & The City Girls. The advance applause given these people indicated that they did draw money into the house and the applause given during and after their act indicated that the audience was thoroughly satisfied with them. No better selection could have been made for the principal than Miss Shattuck. Some of the girls are clever, others are not so good. I hardly think that Mr. Bentham has kept his promise as to the class of girls he was to give us; however they get by and give thorough satisfaction and I am very glad that I have the act. 20 min. full stage, 2 shows. & Doretto. Knock-about-acrobatic act fashioned after Rice & Prevost but not nearly as good. They have their own drop giving a scene of part of a ship. The men are made up as sailors. They went very well and are all right for a week.12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Motion Pictures. Fairly good selection of views.
