Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of December 25, 1905. (Charles Lovenberg, Manager.) The show this week is far from satisfactory. May be rated among the poorest that we have had this season. What business we do will be due entirely to the holidays and not at all to the quality of the bill offered. Comparatively, the three a day section, is better than the big end of the show. Horman. Magician. Conventional act of this kind, mostly very old tricks performed. All right to open the show, at the price. 15 min. open in 3, close in 1, if necessary. 3 shows. John F. Clark. Monologuist.--With some stories, only fairly well told, that were old when I first went into the business. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Musical Bennetts. This is an act of "black-art" after the manner of "Kleist", but not nearly so good. This music end, in this in fact is exceptionally bad. He has one or two little tricks that are new, and the act may be classed as fairly good from a 3 a day standpoint. 15 min. full stage, 3 shows. Renier & Gourdier. Two young women in a singing and dancing actwhich is above the average of acts of this kind that we usually get in the 3 a day section. They dress well and are attractive looking, their singing gets by, and they are very acceptable dancers. Good act of its class. 12 min. in one, 3 shows. Syd Baxter. Slack-wire performer. Most of his work is of the traditional order of acts of this nature, excepting his work on the bicycle and the unicycle which is rather unusual. The act is all right, in fact from a 3 a day standpoint, very good, but from what he has been asking in the way of terms, wanting 2 shows, I thought it was a good deal better. 12 min. full stage, 3 shows. Daisy Harcourt. English character comediienne. I think, with the regular patrons, this act will go very well indeed. The holiday crowd didn't seem to quite understand what she was getting at. I think that she is exceedingly clever myself. 13 min. in 1, 2 shows. Avon Comedy Four. With the holiday crowd, this act was the hit of the show; that is, with the up-stairs portion of it. However, it is to my mind, Especially, lacking in merit and is too rough and coarse to be considered, in an important way, in our houses. At 3 shows a day and at the very highest $150. I would say it was a very good act, but under the present arrangement, I cannot recommend it. 13 min. open in 3, close in 1, 2 shows. Colima Bebe. This woman is very attractive and plays quite well upon the Xylophone and violin. While the act is all right I do not, in any sense, consider it worth by at least $30. what we are paying her. 13 min. in 1, 2 shows. A very novel act and the only one of the kind I know of. They made a big hit today. There is no reason why they should not, at all times. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O. K. NOTE. We are paying for the show at least $350. more than it is worth, from any standpoint, even considering the salaries as they are today.
