(F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Jan. 1, 1906 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 5 min. in 1--Showing the usual selection of interesting home and foreign views. Harry Brown, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--Crayon artist, who attempts some vocalism while sketching. Quite a clever man in his way, and, as always, with work of this sort, it went well today. I call it an excellent opening act, even though the vocalism is bad. The Pelots, 3 shows, 16 min. full stage, close in 1--Man and woman, dressed as juveniles, comedy jugglers. Quite clever jugglers, and their comedy is first class. The man catches on the end of a fork apples which are thrown from the audience. Aroused considerable laughter and can be considered an excellent act for the 3-show division. Kern's Mimic Dog, 2 shows, 7 min. in 2--Well-known mimic canine. Went fairly well this afternoon, with the audience which was considerably made up of out of town people and children, but still, I do not think the act is entitled to be in the 2-show division. Burton and Brooks, 2 shows, 26 in. in 3, close in 1--In the comedy sketch, "Always in the Way, which is really same as the vehicle that they had last year with the exception of the change in the line of talk. In my estimation, it is a very poor act for the 2-show section. They did 26 minutes and they will do it tonight for the reason that I need the time, but the audience was all tired out and their "wit" did not appeal to them at all. Don't care if I never see the act again. Frank Gardner and Lottie Vincent, 2 shows, 20 min. full stage--In the spectacular fantasy, "Winning a Queen". Has been described from New York. Quite a novelty in a way and it went with laughter and apppause throughout today. Got a big hand at the finish and could go further down the bill but we are unable to do so. Celina Bobe, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--European violinist and xylophonist. Makes a nice appearance and everyone of her selections were strongly encored. Still, I do not think she went as strong as the last time. I agree with Providence that YRR is altogether too much. Pichiani Troupe, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--Five men and three women handsomely gowned in acrobatic feats. One of the sort of acts that always goes well here and this case was no exception. Had several new feats and all their work was well done and closed strong. Taylor Holmes, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1--Monologue comedian and imitator. Got quite a hand on his entrance, due to his long stay in "Strongheart" here. Had practically the same line of material as on his last trip, but nevertheless, he was laughed at and applauded. Four recalls at the finish. The audience saw this act better than I. 1. The Hen and the Golden Egg. An excellent picture from every standpoint that scored a big hand. 2. The Bishop and the Burglar. Fair comedy picture. The Bennetts, 3 shows, 14 min. full stage--Man and woman, in a musical specialty. About the aveage 3-a-day material. Francis Wood, 3 shows, 11 min. full stage--Hoop roller. While I can't see anything extra about the act, it seemed to catch the audience toay sufficiently to justify my calling it a good 3-show act for the figure. Comment:- Reeves and Quinn did not show up today and neither did they think it worth while sending word and as a consequence thereof I was forced to burn the stereopticon considerably in the night show. With the exception of Burton and Brooks, the show seemed to please the large and enthusiastic audience, which I think was made up of real holiday material.
