144 PHILADELPHIA SHOW, JAN. 1ST, 1906. BERTINI & BROCKWAY-3-Two sprightly young girls in a pleasing three a day act, including some clever dancing, the singing is merely getting by. The applause really better than the act deserved but it is a holiday crowd, and everything goes with a rush. All right as openers for a crowd like this and on such a day. 15 mins. Lanscape in 2. PIERCE & OPP-3-German comedians of the Weber & Fields flavor. Do some good dancing. Opp's singing in falsetto and baritone in the same song seemed to win the house pretty well, the song being well selected for that sort of thing. Good hand and a few recalls at the close. 14 mins. St. in 1. THE LA JESS-3-Cortortionists. Works with bars, rings, trapeze, and etc. including a small cubical box, from which he emerges in view of the audience, bringing considerable applause. The costuming is all to the good, the feats are the regulation contortion work, with some few novelties. The man has little or no personality. At the close of the act he resumes a little chest in full view of the audience. On the whole the act took very well, as it is very good as an opener, or in this section of the bill. Act would be improved by faster work particularly in the first part. 11 mins. Gar. in 3. NEFF & ELLIOT-3-Man, and a girl of the soubrette type. Opening song a poor selection, and indifferently rendered. With the appearance of the girl however Neff pulled himself together, and got off some very funny lines, including some local hits which went with great applause. Act closes with a duett which took the house fairly well, and although the hand was good at the finish, there were no recalls. 12 mins. St. in 1. TOM MOORE-3-Coon shouter. Does his act in evening dress without cork. Unique for this reason. Audience took to him right away for his songs are well chosen, and clean. The closing feature in which he took the part of an old darkey on parade was very loudly applauded. Will go well anywhere. 12 mins. Drap. in 1. O.K. SATO-2-Was afraid at first that this was going to be very little comedy, and less juggling, but it turned out quite the contrary in both instances, particularly the comedy. A particularly good act for a holiday, as the children furnished most of the laughs. It is made up out of nothing, and considering the meagre material, is clever. 15 mins. C.D.F. in 3. 5 mins. Olio in 1. PARROS BROTHERS.-2-European novelty equilibrists. These people are very clever indeed. They work in evening dress after the manner of the Cafe Chantant Duo, and the act has a Parisian finish. The final head balancing feature, when the lighter of the acrobats is raised ten feet in air, balanced head downward on a series of bottles, is an act of great skill, and won hearty applause, as it deserved. O.K. for this place on the bill.10 mins. Pal. in 4. gestures and eyewinks. People of this kind ought to understand that a house like this has regular year-round patrons, and doubling up on their act within so short a time is too much like plagiarizing on themselves . Act got the laughs all the same, because of an immense suburban contingency, but do not think it will win out so well for the rest of the week, despite of its wit and dash. 15 mins. St. in 1. SAM WATSON'S FARMYARD-2-This is one of the best children's acts that a vaudeville stage makes possible. Watson comes out dressed in the that we were compelled to open at 11.30 instead. By 1.15 it was necessary to shut off the crowd, and the promise of the evening crowd is even greater. The show on the whole is a very series of holiday features, being sufficiently diverse, with plenty of fun interspersed. The one weak spot was Alice Pierce, who seemed to be tired after her journey very nervous, in her painfully anxiety to please. She may get her bearings better later in the week. LATER:-The prediction with regards to the house has made good. At 6.15 there was not a seat left, at 7.15 evey available standing room taken.
