145 Report on Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of January 1, 1906. (Charles Lovenberg, Manager.) The show this week is very strong indeed and I feel sure that it is one that will draw big business. Every act in the show makes good, although I think a couple of them are over paid; one considerably so. Baker & Robinson. Man and woman in a comedy act with some very clever contortion work by the woman, and some very poor comedy by the man his comedy consisting mainly of burlesque magic. The act is all right to open the show; not worth considering for anything else. 12 min. in 3, 3 shows. Leo Carrillo. Mimic. Man gives imitations of animals and other sounds of nature very cleverly. His personality is good but I think NH is about 30% more than the act is worth. 11 min. in 1, 2 shows. Hy Greenway. Comedy juggler. This fellow is very clever indeed. He has a lot of acceptable good juggling stunts and his comedy is really funny. The turn is especially good from a 3 a day standpoint. 12 min. in 2, 3 shows. Lillian Ashley. Very atractive young woman with a pleasant voice, who sings a couple of songs acceptable, tells a few stories. Nice clean 3 a day act. 12 min. in one. Valveno Brothers. Hand to hand balancers. These men are without doubt in my mind the best of any people in their line. I do not even except any of the big European high salaried acts doing this same work and the audience today seemed to be of the same opinion. At the salary that they get I should by all means advise nailing them for a complete tour of the circuit for the next season and for such houses this season as they have not played. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Besnah & Miller. Well known singing, dancing, comedy act. The man is only good as a dancer and in that work, he is very good. The woman is a clever comedienne and the act as a whole should be rated as good. All right for any point up to nine o'clock. 18 min. in 1, 2 shows. Frank & Jen Latoma. This act was a distinct disappointment although I by no means consider it a bad act. The woman is decidedly good as a pianist and singer and the little by-play of comedy that she introduces in her songs shows decided cleverness, but the act would be better without the man. He does some very poor comedy, plays indifferently on a one string Viola and fairly well on the Trombone. T he act is overpaid by GHR. 28 min. open 3, close in 1, 2 shows. Sydney Grant. There is no doubt that Mr. Grant is a very clever man in his line but he didn't make the hit today that he has on former occasions. I, to, consider him overpaid. 18 min. in 1, 2 shows. Ameta. Mirror dancer. This woman's parapharnaila and coloring is not as elaborate as that of Papinta but she, personally, is a better dancer. At the difference in salary, between the two acts, I would rather have this one. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Mayme Remington & Picks. Miss Remington has made an effort to give a lot of new stuff this season and carries two special drops. Her new stuff, however, is not up to what she had last year but she saves herself on the finish in the acrobtic dancing of the Picks. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows. Ed Reynard. Ventriloquist. This act is well known over the circuit and he lived up to all his former hits. 23 min. full stage, 2 shows. Elinore Siters. Comedy talking and singing act. A screaming hit from start to finish. 22 min. in 1, 2 shows. 6 Glinserettis. Acrobats. These men are very good but not in line with the Allisons and some of the other big acts of the same kind. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Moving Pictures. I didn't get a chance to see. They are doing "The Tragedy at Sea" and "The Night Before Christmas," which have been commented on before.
