GRAND OPERA HOUSE PITTSBURG, PA. JANUARY 8th, 06. BESSIE PHILLIPS-3 shows. 10 minutes. Miss Phillips hurt her ankle before she opened here and was compelled to cut out her dancing. If her dancing is as bad as her singing I think we were very fortunate. THEO & CAMILLE LA JESS-Acrobatic contortionists. 3 shows. 12 min. exterior, full stage. This is a very good act among the three a day-much better than the average. KEELER'S JAPS-16 minutes. This is not a good Jap act and would not care to play them a return. LA VALLEE TRIO-Musical act introducing 3 ladies who play harp and violin and sing. This act just gets away. Do not consider their selections good and would not care to play them later than 8:15. LES RENOS-Pantomimists-12 minutes. Introducing six Frenchmen doing acrobatic work in a trick house. I do not consider this a great act. I think they work entirely too slow and I consider the comedy bad. However, owing to the number of people in the act and the novelty, it makes good. MURPHY & FRANCIS-15 minutes in one. Colored man and woman. Singing dancing and talking. This is a very good act, one of the best colored acts we play. MUSICAL KLEIST-Musical novelty and black art. 15 minutes, special set. This act went very big with us. It amused and mystified during the entire act. I consider it a very good act which is away from all others. FRED NIBLO-Monologue. 15 minutes in one. This is a good act, one of the best monologues we play but we found it necessary to cut the following, "She gave me a room and bath-that is she gave me a room and I took the bath"; "Can't you squeeze me in a little back room?" "I don't mean what you mean-naughty audience"; "Not by a damn sight" and several others which I did not think good for polite vaudeville. JOSEPHINE COHAN & CO. in "Friday the 13th". 23 minutes. While this is not a great sketch it seemed to please and I feel sure that the Cohan name helped our business some. QUINLAN & MACK-Talking act in one. One in black face, the other a medicine faker. This is a very good act and went fully as strong with us this week as they did on their previous engagement. THERESA REN & HORSES-13 minutes. This is the best horse act we have ever played-caused a lot of talk and I feel sure it improved our matinees. ZANO-Magician. 12 minutes. We have had some bad magicians but I don't remember ever having one quite as bad as this fellow. John P. Harris.
