New York Criticism--Jan. 22d, 1906. CHARLES ROLTARE: Magician. This man does nothing sensational, therefore, commits no offence. Has a pleasing personality, good delivery and works very neatly. Good opening act. 20 min. in one- 3 shows CHADWICK TRIO: Man, woman and little girl, in a Yankee comedy: Slightly improved since last here. Little girl is quite a clever dancer. Good opening act. 16 min. full stage- 3 shows HARRY EDSON & DOG: First time here. This dog is immense. Greatest I ever saw. Can do everything, but talk. Will stand all kinds of billing on the circuit, and fully capable of holding a better place on the bill. Applause hit of the show up to this time. 11 min. in 2--3 shows POTTER & HARRIS: Man and woman. Aerial rings. Pleasing appearance. Nicely costumed. There is nothing startling in their work. Most all of their tricks are old, although they are new faces, therefore, pleased. 10 min.- full stage-3 shows ANDERSON & GOINES: 2 men, colored. Talking, singing and dancing. This is one of the few "coon" acts that does not rely solely on the dancing. The singing hit of the show up to this time. 19 min. in one- 3 shows CALLAHAN & MACK.: In their well known Irish comedy:-"The old Neighborhood." Received a good number of laughs and I think they went fully as strong as before. 20 min.-full st- JOHN BIRCH: "The Man with the Hats." Some of this man's work went with a scream, while parts of his act fell to pieces. He pleased fairly well, however, in this spot. 14 min. in one- 2 shows S. MILLER KENT & CO.: 2 men and a woman. In his dramatic playlet:- "Just Dorothy." The act is mostly all S. Miller Kent with the man who poses as a Chinaman, using a lady as a vision on his finish. The comedy in the act consists of profane expressions used by the Chinaman. The act is quite novel and alright for once in New York, but not again at the price. 19 min.-full stage-2 GRACE LEONARD: "The Yankee Doodle Boy." Negotiated this spot in very good shape. Sang three songs and each received a big hlot of applause. 15 min. in one- 3 shows on the style of Rice & Prevost. The stunts of the straight man were fairly well done. The sailor's falls cannot touch the original team. A little too strong-going for them down on this spot. Will endeavor to change them. 11 min.-full stage- KINETOGRAPH: "The Wolf Trap." Fairly good comedy. "False Alarm." French film. Good comedy. "Black and White and Al. McCutcheon's product." Fairly good. NOTE: The show is the best we have had for many weeks. Not a bad act on the bill.
