164 (F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Jan. 22, 1906 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 5 min. in 1--Usual selection of interesting home and foreign views. Minnie Harrison, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Vocal, comedienne. Only a "filler" for this house, and if it is possible, I will put her after the Kinetograph out of sight for the balance of the week. Luigi Brothers, 3 shows, 8 min. full stage--Three young men, two working straight and the other grotesque, acrobats and equilibrists. They work quickly and some of their work is very clever indeed. Excellent act of the sort for the 3-show section and could go in a much stronger place than we can give them. Renier and Gourdier, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--Singers and dancers. They dress well, are fairly good vocalists and dancers. Hardly seem to move than please in this spot today, although it will be impossible to move them up. Alfred Arnesen, 2 shows, 7 min. full stage--European equilibrist. Very clever man in his line of work, and as with all acts of this sort, he went big. Probably cause more comment than any other entertainer of the kind we have had here for some time. The short time he does is the only thing I could care to say against the act for this house. W. J. McDermott, 3 shows, 13 min. in 1--Tramp monologuist and parody singer, closing with a burlesque on Sousa. He has several amusing parodies, but the burlesque on Sousa set them off in good shape, with which he closed strong. Good turn for the 3-show section. Cut "Fleas" and "Lydia Pinkham" Keno, Welch & Melrose, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage, close in1- Acrobatic trio, two working straight and the other in grotesque makeup. This act was somewhat detracted from by Luigi Brothers, who do much the same work. Nevertheless, it scored laughter and applause throughout. Alice Pierce, 2 shows, 13 min. open in 2, close in 1--Well-known impressionist. First time in five years. Got a very weak hand on her entrance, in spite of the fact that I had advertised her considerably. None of her impressions went big with the audience, that of Digby Dell perhaps going the best. Not bad, of course, but still, far from our expectations. May Duyryea and W. H. Mortimer, 2 shows, 23 min. in 3--In the comedy sketch, "The Imposter". Rather a quick repeat for these people, but nevertheless they scored laughter and applause throughout and closed to an excellent hand. Mme. Slapoffski, 2 shows, 12 min. in 1--English operatic soprano. In just as good voice as on her last appearance here, but her selections, to my mind, are not as good as on previous occasion. I talked with her about it and if they do not come up to her expectations tonight, I will change them. list of interesting motion pictures: 1. The Three Phases of the Moon. Good colored film. 2. Views an People of Ceylon. Excellent picture both interesting and beautiful photographically. 3. A Joke on the Roudsman. Good comedy film. One of the best lists of pictures we have had in some time. Henella, 3 shows, 15 min. full stage--Magician and illusionist. He introduced the regulation feats of magic and also a new illusion in which he changes a marble statue to the head of a woman. Only an opening act or a time filler. Toto, 2 shows, 9 min. in 2--Too well-known to need description from me, except to say that it went no better than last week. Comment:- The show is considerably better than that of last week averagedly, but still, it does not come up to what should be the standard of this house for it does not contain anything distinctly new. The time of the show fell considerably short and I will be obliged to put in another act. The audience was neither exceptionally large nor enthusiastic.
