action is rapid and the character of the Sheriff brilliant and thoroughly sustained. The lover just gets by, suffering by comparison. It is very strong at the close. The final prase, --"Hell! nobody loves the fat man,"--is so earnestly spoken and natural that it is robbed of all offence. 34m.F.S. MESSENGER BOYS TRIO.--One of the funniest and most entertaining acts in vaudeville All three are clever comedians, and the one who does the Jew travesty is immense. Caught the crowd immediately and kept a running fire of fun all through their act which was well received and all to short to satisfy the audience. Recalled three times. Fine for this place on the bill. 2 min. in 1. HOUDINI--All that has been said of Houdini may be repeated with emphasis. He is proving himself the greatest winner in vaudeville. Elsewhere I do not bank on, but here he has the town going. He came in at a very opportune time of the year, and made friends with the City authorities, the press and the public at once by reason of his sincere and straightforward work. This is the third week and he has the house jammed. Cheers and curtain-calls evry performance. Will made good the rest of this third week without a shadow of doubt. Opened doors half an hour earlier than usual this afternoon because of crowd that jammed lobby and blocked street, and standing-room only is the invariable rule. Balconies shut off this afternoon. Breaks out of straight-jacket every performance this week, with some surprises up his sleeve if there is seen any falling-off in interest. 27 min in full stage. WILL ROGERS.--Badly placed on bill, owing to a three-minute wait between two full-stage features. Rogers works with horse and extra man, and is certainly the leader of ropers on the vaudeville stage. Every feat won applause, Can hold any place on the bill. Rocky Mountain set adds greatly to the act. Big hand at close. 12 min. F.S. ANNIE & JENNIE YEAMANS.--Sketch, "Making an Actress." Some strong applause in advance. Sketch very bright in spots and far exceeded expectations. Certainly a remarkable old lady is Mrs. Yeamans, bringing some money to the house, no doubt, on her name, and the fact that a "legit" of "seventy last November," as she is not loth to confess over the footlights, can be "just as young as she used to be." Applause frequent and not all on account of sympathy either. Will go better tonight. 15 min. closing in 1. GALLAGHER & BARRETT.--Modern travesty "The Stock Brokers." Swift talking act that is hard to beat. Laughter throughout. Closing feature in 1--travesty on Italian Opera--brought shouts of mirth, with recalls. A. 1. for this place on the bill. 15 min. F.S. Close in 1. WOLPERT TRIO.--Acrobats. Very clever people who will work better when they get their land-legs on, as they only lately arrived, and today missed feats as many as seven times in one instance, before they could bring themselves into line. Will prove one of the best acrobatic features on the circuit, and distinctly a 'find' in that line. Personally I like to see an act of this kind dressed to the part, but if applause of their stunts is a criterion, their plain dress make no difference with an appreciative audience. Their fea
