Boston Show, Week of Feb. 5, 1906 (F. J. O'Connor) McNamee, 3 shows 12 min. in 2 (Can work in 1, if necessary)--This man is not as rapid a worker as Gallando, neither he is as clever, but all his subjects, which were mostly on the comedy order, were applauded. Fair act for the 3-a-day section. Tom Almond, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Long shoe and ice skate dancer. Quite apart from the usual run of 3-show dancers, his ice skate dancing being on a pedestal. It is a good act of this sort that went quite well today. The Edgertons, 3 shows, 7 min. full stage--Man and woman, working on trapeze. They bill themselves as "electrical aerial acrobats", but the electrical part amounts to nothing whatever. They work rapidly and the act went quite well. Got a good hand at the close. White City 4, 2 shows, 10 min. in 1--Four men, one working in eccentric makeup, in vocal and supposed "comedy". These people assist James Powers in his act, which is the reason we have them. They are very bad as vocalists, and owing to the fact that the show ran considerably over time this afternoon, it will give us an opportunity to put them where they belong -- below the kinetograph. S. Miller Kent, 2 shows, 19 min. in 3--In the comedy playlet, "Just Dorothy". Been commented on in the other houses. Owing to the fact that the people were coming in in bunches when this man was on, his act was spoiled this afternoon. He spoke about it in a nice way, and I will give him a chance to see what he can do tonight, if not, back he goes. I agree with Providence that the act is overpaid even at the present standards. Cook and Sylvia, 2 shows, 13 min. in 1--Man and woman, singers and dancers. The woman amounts to very little, her voice is poor and she is not much of a dancer. Nevertheless, she serves the purpose to give the man an opportunity to rest after his exertions. The man is a great dancer and was applauded accordingly. Kaufmann Troupe, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage--Just as big as last week. In fact, in THIS SPOT they went bigger. I don't know how Mosher, Houghton and Mosher will be able to hold up after two weeks of these people. Clifton Crawford, 2 shows, 20 min. in 1--Monologue and singing comedian, in fact a wonderfully versatile entertainer. Got quite an advance hand owing to the fact that he is well-known here in connection with the Cadets' Theatricals, which are occupying a considerable amount of attention in the public eye at present. This man went the biggest any single man in 1 ever has in this house without any doubt whatever. I never in my time in this house have heard the tremendous applause accorded him. Great entertainer, who should be nabbed up for next year. This man in his spot was appreciated so much that everything following him seemed tame. In consequence, I will give him the lowest spot on the bill possible. Cut the story about one man having a pain in his side and wanted to know if he was going to have an Eve, also "don't thank me" after his story about a woman who says she has "six children, thank you". 3. A Scene on the East Side, New York. Just fair picture. Texakansas and Walby, 3 shows, 13 min. in 1--Two women, making several changes of costume, in dancing specialties, with just enough singing to hold them together. One of the best 3-a-day girl dancing acts we have had in a long time from a dancing standpoint. It is worth booking for the 3-a-day section. Philbrook and Reynolds, 3 shows, 17 min. in 3 (Can close in 1, if necessary)--Man and woman in a German comedy sketch. Very little improvement since they were last here, when they were decidedly bad. Makes a little difference this week owing to the fact that we have plenty of show and are merely using them as time "fillers". Stereopticon, 3 shows, 5 min. in 1--Usual selection of interesting home and foreign views. Comment:- We had one of the biggest Monday afternoon audiences of the winter and they were awakened early. I have every reason to believe that "Jimmie" Powers contributed largely towards this end, for after his turn a good many patrons got up and left the house. The show, as a whole, is a good one, the weak spots in the bill do not amount to much, owing to the fact that it will be a simple matter to hide them.
