(F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Feb. 12, 1906 Overture, Selection from Jacobowski's opera, "Ermine". Aerial Smiths, 3 shows, 10 min. full stage--Man and woman, in a great exhibition on the trapeze. Altogether too good an act for this spot in the bill, and were it possible I would put them further down the bill. They work fast, their feats were repeatedly applauded, and they closed to an excellent hand. Lillian Ashley, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--Vocal comedienne and mimic. Did not appeal very strongly to our audience today, although she is not at all bad. Redford and Winchester, 2 shows, 13 min. full stage--Two men, one working straight and the other in eccentric makeup, juggling comedians, with some hoop rolling. They aroused laughter and applause throughout, some of their work fairly going with a scream, and closed to an excellent hand. Good act for the early 2-show section. Gilroy, Haynes and Montgomery, 2 shows, 19 min. in 1--Two men and a woman, in comedy and singing skit, "The Good Ship Nancy Lee" They carry their own drop representing a portion of the deck of a ship The comedy and singing are both good and went very well with our audience today. Would not suggest, however, placing it on a bill too late. Cut--One of the men sticking his tongue out at the other. Caprice, Lynn & Fay, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage, short close in 1--Three young women, stunningly costumed, in singing and dancing specialties. They are not what would be called really "great" in either the singing or dancing line, but the combination of the two together with their handsome costumes, make it fairly acceptable for the early 2-show section. It went quite well in this spot today. Petching Brothers, 2 shows, 17 min. open full stage, close in 1--Two men, novelty and comedy musicians. They have quite a handsome stage setting that drew a little applause as the curtain went up. These people are on just a trifle too late today, but nevertheless, they went all right, although they did not close to the appreciation I should like to have seen shown. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew, 2 shows, 20 min. full stage--In the comedy sketch, "When Two Hearts Are Won", which has not been done here in nearly two years. Both received a fair hand on their entrance, and the sketch went with laughter and applause throughout-- bigger than ever before. Otto Brothers, 2 shows, 13 min. in 1--German dialect comedian and singers. Their talk did not amount to much, but the falsetto of one of the men and their dancing carried the act today. Cut "You fool". sketch, "Buster's Burglar". Owing to the fact that there is a young chap in this sketch who is quite cute they got considerable applause. In view of that fact, it might be said that it would be a fairly good 3-a-day sketch to please the women and children, and an excellent one for time. The "kid" is the act. Somers and Law, 3 shows, 14 min. in 1--Conversational comedians and singers of fair value in the 3-show section, although a little more experience would work wonders. Cardownie Sisters, 3 shows, 11 min. open in 2, close in 1--Character change dancers. Good 3-show merit and I will endeavor to put them up and give them a chance before the audience tomorrow. Comment:- The show is hardly up to standard, but it is much better than it looks on paper. It started off in great shape, but lagged a little between 2 and 3, not enough to hurt any. Otherwise it would be a satisfactory bill, well balanced. We had a capacity audience who were not afraid to show their appreciation.
