(F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of Feb. 19, 1906 Overture, "The Palms". Brothers Griff, 3 shows, 10 min. full stage--European gymnasts, weight lifters and ring artists. They are two well developed men and their work is a little apart from the ordinary acts of the kind. Of course it went well here, and I think it is a good act of the sort for the 3-show section. Arlington Comedy Four, 3 shows, 14 min. in 1--Four men, made up as messenger boys (one in blackface), in vocal and dancing specialties. The vocalism is quite good and their dancing, very good. Good act for the early 3-show section. The Delmars, 3 shows, 15 min. full stage--Barrel jumpers and trick tumblers. They have changed their act considerably since they were last here, and as a consequence, did not go nearly as well. Will shift them out of this spot for the balance of the week. Cut: one of the men putting his fingers to his nose. Charlotte Guyer George, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Well-known contralto soloist. She sang three selections this afternoon, every one of which was strongly encored. Excellent value for the 3-show division. Woodford's Animals, 3 shows, 19 min. full stage--Exhibiting dogs, horses, and monkeys. Great act for the children, that will no doubt prove the means of packing the house with the youngsters on the 22nd and Saturday. this afternoon it had the grownups laughing in spite of themselves. It is an excellent act of that sort. Spook Minstrels, 2 shows, 22 min. open in 2, close in 1--Well-known vocal novelty. This afternoon there was some trouble with the carbons, at times the pictures flickering out altogether. I don't think the picture part of it has any value in this house, or but very little, but the quintette of men are excellent as vocalists. The song "My Rosary" went very big and they were compelled to respond to an encore, "In My Oldsmobile", which I promptly cut. They can advertise their autos on billboards or change to "automobile." Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Barry, 2 shows, 24 min. open in 3, close in 1--Comedy singing and dancing skit, "The Village Cut-up". These people are very popular hereabouts, being Bostonians. They have some bright material and they are both very clever. The act was the applause hit of the show up to this point. Mr. Barry's imitation of Dan Daly is the best which has come this way. His story about a man who was one half limb and half tree and about being told to be sure to keep out of the woodshed, which was decidedly suggestive and which I cut out. McCarte Sisters, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage--Three handsomely costumed young women working on wire, opening with mandolin playing and some dancing. The latter does not amount to much, but their work on the wire went with applause throughout and the drapery waving at the close sent them off to an excellent hand. reiterate with emphasis, if possible with what has been said in favor of the act in the other houses. It is a great act in every respect and I can see where it will go very big tonight. Kinetograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1--Showing the following list of motion pictures; 1. The Bicycle Robber. Good comedy film. 2. A Thrilling Rescue. Repeat for us 3. The Wolf Trap. Fair comedy. 4. False Alarm. Fair comedy picture. Young and Brooks, 3 shows, 15 min. in 1--Man and woman, neatly costumed, playing on various musical instruments. Good 3-show act that went quite well in this extremely poor spot. Charles McAvoy--This man lost his voice and could hardly be heard within a few seats of the stage. I advised him to cancel, which he did much to my relief, as I had plenty of show without him. Comment:- This bill will compare favorably with our show of a few weeks ago, which I believe was the strongest in several years. We had a capacity audience today, although it was an ideal winter day out of doors. Considerable enthusiasm was taken from Bryan's act by the fact that it is impossible to make our suburbanites hold in after 4.23, unless we have the last act by that time.
