Cleveland Show, Week of March 5th, '06. (H. A. Daniels.) 3 MADCAPS--3 Girls, in an acrobatic and dancing specialty. Well known on the Keith circuit. The act is just about good enough for this spot. Received some scattered applause. They would not close in one, which caused a 2 minute wait in the show. Gar. in 3. 10 min. KITA BANZAI JAPS--8 Japs, doing a regulation juggling and equilibristic work. The act has been described in the other houses. Per Cleveland, it is an excellent act, one of the best of the kind we have ever played. It was the applause hit this afternoon. Silk drop in 3. 19 min. W. J. MC DERMOTT--Tramp makeup. Songs and stories, and a burlesque imitation of Sousa. Went very well with the afternoon audience, and received liberal applause in this spot on the bill. Good 8 O'clock act. Drop in one, 12 min. ALICE PIERCE--Gave imitations of Evie Green, Ellen Terry, Leslie Carter, and Digby Bell. She is as far behind Cissy Loftus, that she will never be able to catch up. The best was an imitation of digby Bell, which received deserved applause. She could never be a headline feature in Cleveland in 100 years. She managed to do 10 min., which included an encore in one, not sufficient to make a set and caused a three minute wait in the show. C. D. F. in 3. Close in one. 10 min. ZAZELL & VERNON--Assisted by 2 women. Comedy pantomime act entitled, "The Elopement." Went very much better than when I last reported on it in Philadelphia. It was a scream from start to finish with the afternoon audience, and I doubt if I ever seen an act go with more ginger and fire. Special set in 4. Close in one. 18 min. EMMET DEVOY & CO.--In "Saintly Mr. Billings." Miss Shone, who is Mrs. Devoy, is a Cleveland girl, and has many friends here in the city. They were married here only a year ago. Many of her friends were in the theatre this afternoon, and consequently the act went very well. It is a good sketch. C. D. F. in 3. 3 FUNNY MITCHELLS--Colored act. Man, woman and young girl. They introduced an illustrated song of the pathetic variety, which I immediately cut out. I cannot have illustrated songs at 4:15 in the afternoon. After I cut about 5 minutes from the act, it will be able to hold down this spot in good shape. Drop in one. 19 min. HARRY TATE'S "MOTORING."--Company of five. An English act, in which the troubles of a motorist with a broken down touring car are made the foundation for one of the funniest talking acts I have ever heard. An excellent act. Full Stage. 16 min. KINETOGRAPH-- Flags and Faces of All Races. Good. The Bill Poster. Good.
