212 New York Criticism--March 12th, 1906. FRED P. RUSSELL: Blackface Comedian. This man's singing does not amount to much. His monologue just about lets him get by. Alright for an opening act. 14 min. in one- 2 shows AERIAL SMITHS: Well known trapeze act. One of the best we ever had. Continual applause throughout for their work. 12 min.-full stage- 3 GORMAN & WEST: In their well known comedy. Everything the same as before, both in words and singing. Always goes well, however, and they managed to secure a lot of applause. 16 min. open in one close full stage-3 MARTIN BROTHERS: Xylophone Soloists. While these boys had nice selections, they were not appreciated by the audience. 14 min. in one- 3 shows AMERICUS COMEDY FOUR: 4 men. One working straight and the other three in eccentric characters. The comedy is this act is of a low order, which appeals to the audience here and went exceptionally well. The vocal work, I think, is a shade better than it was in their old act. They were laughed at continally and received quite a big lot of applause on their finish. At $175, they are being fully paid for their services. 17 min.-full stage (close in one about 5 min)- 2 shows CAPRICE, LYNN & FAYE: 3 young ladies in a very pleasing character change singing and dancing act. The singing does not amount to much, but the various changes and their dancing seem to please and they held this place down in great shape. 11 min.-full stage- 2 shows McMANON & CHAPPELLE: In their well known talking act:-"Twenty Minutes before Train Leaves." Most all of the material in this act is new and was easily the biggest laughing hit. Compelled to encore several times. 21 min. in one CARLETON MACY & CO: Presenting:-"A Timely Awakening." Mr. Macy is substituting Miss Myrtle May for Maude Hall, who he claims is very ill. The act holds its own for laughs and scored a big hit. 20 min.-full stage HOWARD & NORTH: In their well known talking comedy:-"Happy Days." Biggest laughing hit of the bill. 22 min. in one- McMAHON'S "MINSTREL MAIDS" & "WATERMELON GIRLS." Description of the act given in previous criticism. The "Minstrel Maids" seemed to please immensely. The girls are young and the voices very strong. The finish of the act,-"The Watermelon Girls", being new and novel, was strongly applauded. The act on the whole is thoroughly alright. 18 min.-full st-
