229 APRIL 2, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW C.E. Barns. GOETZ & NELSON:-Jugglers on the Revolving Globe:- 10 min. F.S. 3 shows. Same act they have been doing in this house before. Always a good opener, and could go later if necessary. Well received by the audience. CHERRY & BATES, Comedy Trick Bicyclists:- 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. One working straight, the other eccentric. Pretty fair, but they have done the same thing before. Some of their tricks got a good hand. Fell rather short of expectations, particularly in the comedy, which was forced fun, and not spontaneous. Does not belong in the 2-a-day class. N.B. These people were booked for three shows, but flashed contract for two--an error in making out the contract, evidently. They played two shows, since we were in no great need of material. SOMERS & LAW:-Comedians:- 15 min. in 1. One works straight the other Dutch comedy. Rather talky and long drawn out. There were a few scattered laughs through the house. Just gets by for a 3-a-day. Law sings rather well. They closed very weak. BROWNING, WELP & CO, "The Widow Wise":- 22 min. F.S. 3 shows. Two women and a man, working comedy Frenchman. One of the women is very pretty. With a better medium they would do quite well, but the sketch is too slender for even better people to succeed. The laughs were very few and far between. Promise to do better later. The finish was a little stronger, but the act won only very meagre hand. RM. & MRS. ESMONDE, "In Alaska":- 25 min. F.S. Rather serious and pathetic little playlet of life in the Klondike. A miner who has sheltered a wandering soldier, advertises for a wife. She comes in the person of the young soldier's wife who had long believed him dead. There is a happy ending and considerable humor throughout the piece. It seemed to hold the interest of the audience very well. The action is swift enough and the plot consistent. The pathetic ending brought a good strong hand, and curtain call. Carry their own scenery, the interior of a Klondike cabin, etc. SAILOR & BARBARETTO. "The man and the girl with the changeable eyes":- 12 min, in 1. Two very good singers. The girl is very pretty and vivacious, and has personality as well as a good voice. Altogether a very neat little act, and O.K. here. FADETTES: Second week;- 28 min. F.S. Big advance applause. Entire change of program. Encores same as last week. Just as big a hit as ever. The selections were popular, winding up with the feature called, "The Jolly Musicians", which I regard as better than the circus stunt of last week as a closing number. Strongly billing here and will pull well this week. The best drawing musical feature in Vaudeville, without a doubt. Fiend". Goetz & Nelson.....6.25 Somers & Law.....6.35 Browning, Welp & Co......6.50 Cherry & Bates.....7.12 Keith's Orchestra.....7.24 Mr. & Mrs. Edmonde.....7.30 Sailor & Barbaretto.....7.35 Fadettes.....8.05 Crane Bros......8.33 Macy & Hall.....8.50 Blockson & Burns.....9.12 Louise Montrose.....9.26 Harry Atkinson.....9.41 Riccobono's Horses.....9.55 Kinetograph.....10.10 10.30.
