230 New York Criticism--April 2d, 1906. CHICK Trick Bicyclist. His comedy on the start-off was treated as a joke. Received some little applause for his trick work. Did not go as strong as before, but is a mighty valuable three-show act just the same. 10 min.-full stage ANNA CHANDLER: Singing Comedienne. This woman is May Curtis formerly of Curtis & May. Makes a very nice appearance. Sings a few songs. Gives an imitation of Ethel Levey, which was done fairly good. Closed with "Have you found my 'Enery Brown" with a man singing with her from the box. Man is quite a good vocalist and really secured more applause than the woman, especially his verse in German. Presume she could make good over the circuit, even if she does not carry the man. Act is alright for about second on the bill. 16 min. in one- 3 shows LENNON & EDWARDS: In a little singing sketch. Woman makes a very nice appearance. Man is a comedian, does not amount to much. Singing is good, but the comedy did not seem to go and they left the stage rather tame. Will open the show with them to-morrow. 16 min. full stage close in one-3 KURTIS & BUSSE: This is a very nice little dog act,-mostly all trained terriers. Carries quite a lot of paraphernalia. Dogs go through various stunts, which seemed to please immensely, although they work very slow. The act is of good value for the three-show section. 18 min.-full stage- 3 BROOKS BROTHERS: These boys went very good, probably due to their long vacation. Some of their material pleased immensely. Secured quite a number of laughs and got a pretty good hand at the finish. 15 min. in one- 3 EMMA FRANCIS and her Arabian Whirlwinds: Well known. Received the first big applause of the afternoon. The Arabs were strongly applauded throughout. Compelled to encore. 9 min.-full stage Closed in one (1 min.) 2 shows DeMAR & FORTUNE: In a little singing sketch. Man makes quite a nice appearance and received a big lot of applause for his vocal work. The act is full of life and managed to secure some good laughs and alright to open the two-show section. 17 min. full stage (Closed in one about 3 min.) 2 ETHEL A. Mac DONOUGH: "The Girl Behind the Drum." Received some little applause for her drum and xylophone work. The act is a good musical number and acceptable as a novelty. 9 min. open in 2 close in one- 2 shows some good laughs. 9 min.-full stage KINETOGRAPH: "Scenes from Life of an American Policeman." Interesting. "Pierrot's Revenge." Novel "Hallo-Hallo Grinder." Good comedy "From Christiana to the North Pole." Good photographically. NOTE: The show looks good on paper and is very expensive. There is not one good lively, quick-going act on the bill. With the frappe condition of the audience to-day, none scored any big success.
