245 New York Criticism--April 16th, 1906. YOUNGS & BROOKS: Man and woman. Making a very nice appearance in a neat musical act, using various instruments. Very pleasing opening act and deserving of a better place on the bill. 16 min. in one- 3 shows FLOOD SISTERS: Two men in a revolving globe and balancing ladder act with performing dog. The revolving globe is very ordinary. The balancing ladder is fairly good. Act is alright--top for bill. 12 min. full stage- 3 shows INNESS & RYAN: Conversationalists and singers. Been away so long,-seem like new faces. Improved a little. Went exceptionally well. 16 min. open in two close in one- 2 shows FERGUSON & WATSON: This act is the same as when presented here before, not a new line. They managed to make them laugh, but closed very tame. Good three-show act. 14 min. in one- 3 shows THE DORIA TRIO: Presenting:-"A Night in Venice." The applause hit of the show up to this time. 13 min.-full stage- close in one about 5 min. 2 ANNA EVA FAY: Section 1:- This part of the act was described in previous criticism. While all her work was on the regulation cabinet order done by many others who we have had, the audience appeared to be interested and I believe they appreciated her work, although they failed to give her any applause at the finish. 20 min.-full stage WILLA HOLT WAKEFIELD: Pianologuiste. This woman is one of New York's leading drawing-room entertainers and is a valuable attraction for this house. She recites her songs playing her own accompaniment, which appeals to the better classes. She has a pleasing personality with great delivery, and although lame, the applause was purely for her work and not on account of the affliction. Compelled to take several bows. 8 min. in two--can work in one- 2 shows BYRON & LANGDON: In their comedy success:-"The Dude Detective." This act went with a scream. The lines are exceptionally bright. Byron's character work is very good. The laughing hit of the show up to this time. 24 min.-full stage--Close in one about 3 min.- TROVOLLO: Ventriloquist. Presenting his new comedy:-"The Hotel Office" The best act this man has ever given us. All of his material was laughed at throughout. He scored one of the laughing hits of the show. 20 min.-full stage- KINETOGRAPH: "A Tour of Italy, showing the eruption of Mr. Vesuvius." The tour of Italy is alright photographically, but the eruption of Mr. Vesuvius is very fakey. "A Winter Straw Ride." Good comedy. NOTE: The Union Square played to a most aristocratic audience to-day than for many seasons, Willa Holt Wakefield being the society attraction. Good sale of reserved seats on both performances. The show is fairly good, well balanced, contains many new faces, several novelties, and free of the "has beens."
