248 APRIL 23, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. LOUISE ARNOT & TOM GUNN, in "Regan's Luck":- 18 min. in 3. 3 shows. Sketch of the East Side New York. Irishman supposed to be left some money and purchases a lot of goods on the strength of it, only to find themselves victims of a practical joke. There was very little humor in it, and the pathos at the close did not hit the audience very hard. The laughs were very few and the hand at the finish was not very encouraging. It will be "buried" to-night. NEWMAN & KNOWLES, Comediennes:- 12 min. F.S. Close in 1. 3 shows. Two women, one of them straight and the other eccentric, with three changes of costume, viz.-tough girl,--French doll,-- soubrette. Their singing is fairly good, and the act went pretty well in this spot. Capable of doing much better things. KURTIS & BUSSE, and Their Trained Terriers:- 15 min. F.S. 3 shows. This is a very good animal act. Man and woman with a half dozen dogs. The personalities of both man and woman are pleasing, and the paraphernalia sightly. The tricks of the dogs are very expert. Each one of their tricks received a good hand. At the close the applause was strong. Consider this a very good three-a-day feature. No danger of S.P.C. BELL BOY TRIO, Com. Singing & Dancing Specialties:- 13 min. in 1. 3 shows. Three boys in costume. Their singing is fair, their dancing better, in fact, the dancing of two of them received quite a good hand. As a three-a-day, this feature gets by quite well, but by no means strong enough to justify a better place on the bill. MC.CREA & POOLE, Rifle Experts:- 12 min. F.S. 3 shows. This is without a doubt one of the most interesting acts in Vaudeville. Such shooting as Mc Crea's is seldom seen on any stage of the world. I believe him to be the peer of Bordevery and would make just as much of a sensation, if he had the same stage effects and were billed as big. Every one of his remarkable feats got strong applause, and the attention of the audience never flagged to the last. Applause was big at finish. The nerve of Poole in allowing himself to be made a target in this dangerous manner commanded almost as much admiration as the expert shooting. this feature will be put down in the body of the bill for the rest of the week, not only on account of its excellence, but to separate so many singing acts from one another. WILSON TRIO, "A Padded Cell":- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. Man and woman working straight with the man Dutch comedian. These people made a genuine hit. The woman does not amount to much, but the two men are very good, particularly the Dutch comedian, who had the house in roars of laughter throughout. His Dutch version of popular songs is immense. There were two recalls. These people also are worth a better place on the bill and will get it. and woman. These people are very clever. The man is certainly a born humorist, and his work is genuinely funny, as the laughs were constant, right up to the close. One of the best talking acts we have had of the kind, not the least hackneyed. Went very strong to the end. The work in one got a very good hand. Held down the hardest spot on the bill splendidly. BYERS & HERMANN, Contortionists:- 14 min. F.S. 2 shows. Two men, one working straight and the other skeleton. There is a good deal of comedy in this act which is swift and skillful enough in an acrobatic way, to hold the attention of the audience. Got a good many laughs and an occasional good hand. The special drops are quite in keeping with the act and help its success very much. Difficult act for a closer, but it proved itself O.K. to-day. Ward & Curran.....7.04 McCrea & Poole.....8.20 Wilson Trio.....8.32 Broomstick Witches.....8.47 Polk, Kollins & C.S......9.02 Harry Gilfoil.....9.15 Thorne & Carleton.....9.38 Byers & Hermann.....9.56 Kinetograph.....10.10 10.30.
