250 Report on show, Keith's theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of april 23, 1906. (Charles Lovenberg, Mgr.) The bill is about as good as we ever played in this house. It was boosted pretty strongly in order to meet the opposition of Lillian Russell and a Vaudeville Company containing Rice & Prevost, Chevalier De Loris and some other strong acts. Our house this afternoon was packed from top to bottom, and the Lillian Russell show had 250 people including passes and all. Our bill went with a whoop from start to finish and I think we will hold our own. Smith & Baker. Comedy, talking, singing, and dancing. Comedy and singing amounts to very little. They do some very good dancing, especially the eccentric work, and left the stage to considerable applause, considering their early spot on the bill. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. Lily Seville. English comedienne. This girl is quite clever, but I question (considering her from an important standpoint) as to whether she was understood by the audience,--Her English style of comedy being somewhat foreign to them. She went fairly well however and there is no fault to be found. Thoroughly all right from the three a day standpoint. 12 min. in one, 3 shows. The Wilsons. Man and woman, revolving ladder act; little comedy. About on a par with the usual 3-a-day acts of this kind. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Sailor & Barbaretto. These people sing well and have some good songs. Were liked by the audience and I believe would go better if the woman didn't take herself so awfully seriously. She acts as if she was working under protest. 12 min. in 1, 3 shows. Sabine, O'Neil, and Vera. Two men, Irish, comedy, a woman "straight", introducing a dance. The act evidently pleased the audience and I think it is a fairly good comedy sketch. Hardly think it worth quite what we are paying it, but that is no different than a thousand other acts. 20 min. full stage, 2 shows. Avolos. Xylophonists. Best act of the kind in the business. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows. Eddie Leonard & Sharp Bros. Blackface singing and dancing, special scenery. Very strong act of the kind. 18 min. full stage, close with about 3 minutes in 1, 2 shows. Tom Hearn. "The Lazy Juggler." This fellow got them laughing at the start and had them laughing at the finish. A unique idea and well carried out. 14 min. full stage, 2 shows. Grace Cameron. Miss Cameron didn't do as well for us this time as before, due to her poorer material. Her act fell down pretty hard at the beginning, but she pulled up strongly at the finish with her "Dolly Dimples" Song. It is evident that she relies entirely upon this song and I wouldn't want to play the act again unless I saw her with something new, before booking. 15 min. in one, 2 shows. Rose Coghlan & Co. In "The Ace of Trumps". Very strong dramatic sketch, excellently played and well received. 25 min. full stage, 2 shows. Smith & Campbell. As good a talking act as we have had this season; bright new material well delivered. 18 min. in 1, 2 shows. to Johnny Ray. All right for an unimportant place. 14 min. full stage, 3 shows.
