Robert on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R.I., Week of Jan. 2d, 1905. (Charles Lovenberg, Manager.) I am highly pleased with the bill this week and wish they could all be just like it. Everything went well with one exception, the Boston Brothers who were handicapped decidedly by having to follow the Valveno Brothers and the Japs, both acts of which conflicted with theirs but I may be able to improve upon the matter by putting the Japs on later tonight. Valveno Brothers. Hand balancers and acrobats. A mighty good three a day act. Would stand a later place on the bill if I were able to give it to them. 9 min. full stage, 3 shows. Bertha Allison. Neat looking young woman who sings a song at the piano and three other songs. Good enough act to play once. She has a pretty good voice; some of her songs went well others did not. 12 min. in 2, closing in one, 3 shows. Mr. & Mrs Fred Lucier. In a comedy musical singing and dancing act. Very nice three a day offering and went well with the audience today. 15 min. full stage, 3 shows. Add Hoyt. Blackface monologuist, who from a three a day standpoint should be reckoned as fairly good. He has some good material and some pretty good parodies. 15 min. in one, 3 shows. Sugimoto Japs. These people have a great act and coming as it does, just at this time, following the surrender of Port Arthur, they were especially well received. Aside from any sentiment in the matter however they do great work. I was strongly under the impression and it seems to me that I was told that these people did three turns and I figured my show accordingly. They have a contract however which calls for two, and I could not get them to do the third. In that way it rather upset my schedules considerably as I figured on them from 15 to 18 minutes on the supper show. They did 22 min, 2 shows, not 3. Jennie Yeamans. Miss Yeamans has a lot of very good material this year, about one-half of which is new and she made an unqualified hit. In general her act is the same or rather of the same style as she has previously done. 15 min. in one, 2 shows. Burke, LaRue & Co. In a singing and dancing comedy sketch which went exceedingly well. 22 min. full stage, 2 shows. Bill & Whitaker. Banjo and Harp playing and coon songs by Miss Whitaker. A mighty good act. They notified me this morning that by arrangement in Boston they were to receive $15. a week more (on account of carrying the Harp) than the original contract called for. 14 min in one, 2 shows. Boston Brothers. Hand to hand balancers and acrobats, who following the Valveno Brothers and Japs (as I remarked above) fell down horribly. I can't see where the act is a great deal better than that of the Valveno Brothers, who got about one-half the salary and do three shows a day and fill more time in each show. 6 min. full stage, 2 shows. Quartette Basque. Very good singing act. 12 min. in one, 2 shows.
