PHILADELPHIA SHOW, JAN. 9TH'05. H. A. DANIELS. HORNMANN-AR-3-Magician. Evidently a foreigner. Does a few ordinary tricks--not unusually clever. All right for an opener. Can work in one. 12 mins. in 2. WATSON & HILLS-GRR-3-Two men, singing and dancing team, working in evening dress. Fair three show act. 10 mins. in one. GREGORY & WOOD-NH-3-Two boys, hoop rollers. They attempt most of the Everhart tricks. The act is all right for the price--and three shows 11 mins. Gar. in 4. CAL STEWART-NH-3-Rube monologue. All right for a three show act. However, he's not half as good as he imagines. 17 mins. in one. THREE WESTONS-GHR-2-Two good looking young ladies and the blind father. One of the young ladies is an excellent violinist. A good musical act. Very few people seemed to realize that the man was blind. 26 mins. C.D.F. in 3. Close in one. DOLAN & LENHARR-YHR-2-Man and woman, sketch, "A Bit of Travesty." First time here. A conglomeration of foolishness, so crazy that it takes artists to get away with it. Their work went with roars of laughter throughout the act. Very good. 19 mins. C.D.F. in 3. R. J. JOSE-YRR-2-Well known tenor. Plays the circuit frequently. Always seems to go well, if not on too late. Went very well to-day. 12 mins. in one. SCOTT BROS.-GHR-2-Equilibrists and hand balancers. Very good act-- but the comedy, like all foreign comedy, is bad. Act as a whole is very good. 7 mins. Gar. in 4. RICE & CADY-YHR-2-German comedians. Imitate Webers & Fields in dress. Act is no better than Raymond & Caverly. It is a good act, but is surely overpaid. 16 mins. in one. ROBERT HILLIARD & CO.-ARR-2-The act really costs us NRR, or will by the end of the week. Hilliard pays for nothing. Ask him to be careful, and he is insulted. The act, "No. 973" is too well known for me to comment on its merit. I agree with Boston, that it's an excellent act, portrayed by an artist--but the expense we are put to makes the act overpaid MRR, considering the fact he has played here so often that his name has no "pull" whatever. 20 mins. C.D.F. in 3. SHARL & VOILET ALLEN-GHR-2-"The Sign Painter." Good lively act to follow Hilliard. Went very well with the audience. 15 mins. in one. PAPINTO-MHR-2-Second and last week. The act has gone much better than we expected. She does nothing new, but our patrons here seemed to enjoy the act as much as if they had never seen it. 14 mins. Special Set. STUART BARNES-YRR-2-Songs and stories. Has improved since last here. Went very well, all of his work being liberally applauded. 15 mins. in one. RICE & PREVOST-YNH-2-Second week. As always--a scream. 10 mins. Gar in 4. the circuit. NORMAN & BRYCE-NH-3- Man and woman, alleged comedy sketch. By comparison the worst act we have on the bill this week. Man's comedy is about the worst we have ever had. They will have to go up the bill, and open the show. Cut out:- "Had a swill time at the garbage-men's ball." "insect powder." Story about the boy not hearing the bell, and going to hell.
