GRAND OPERA HOUSE-WEEK COMMENCING Jan. 2d, [unknown?]. PITTSBURGH, PA. CROWLEY & FOLEY-15 minutes in one. Singing, talking and dancing act, 3 shows. Would not care to play this act a return. GREGORY & WOOD-Comedy Juggler and hoop rollers. 15 minutes in 3 Wood. Three shows. There is not much that one can say in favor of this act. I do not think we would care to have it again. THREE MADCAPS-Novelty Acrobatic Dancers. 9 minutes, three shows-Garden. This is a very good little act. We have it on at eight o'clock and it is going very well. JOHN BURCH-The Man with the Hats. 14 minutes. Street in one. Mr. Burch burlesques a melo-drama and the only change he makes to play the different characters is to use a different hat. The act is surely away from all others and goes very well-the idea being one of the best I have seen and in the hands of a better performer than Mr. Burch I think would be a great act. COOK & SYLVIA-12 minutes. We are playing them in three-interior, but they can do their act in one. The dancing of Mr. Cook is very good-I think as good as any I have ever seen, but the work of Miss Sylvia is very bad. Taking the act as a whole, it just about gets through. If Mr. Cook were to work alone I think it would improve the act quite a little. LOUISE DRESSER-10 minutes. Olio in one. Miss Dresser is going very well here. She is a neat dresser. This is her second appearance here and she is doing much better than she did during her first engagement. WATERBURY BROS. & TENNEY. 23 minutes, close in one about 4 minutes. This act is above the average musical act-the comedy being very good as is also the music. They are going very big with us. SPADONI-Palace. 23 minutes. Juggler of Cannon Balls and other light and heavy objects. This is surely a great act-one that makes people talk. I think the one fault with this act is the fact of its being entirely too long. Instead of doing 23 minutes, if he were to cut it to about 13 or 14 minutes I am sure the act would be much more valuable. As it is, the audience tires somewhat. At the close of the act the applausr is not nearly so strong as it would be were the act shorter. I have tried to tell Mr. Spadoni this but he seems to think the managers want long acts. However, it is an act that would repeat with us. RICE & CADY-German Comedians. 18 minutes in one. This act is going very well with us but I feel that their salary is excessive. If their salary was about the same as Carlin & Otto I think they would be well paid. BARROWS-LANCASTER CO. In the "Jolly Jollier" 26 minutes, interior. While this is a very good act, I consider Mr. Barrow's support very bad. If it were not for his good work I feel sure the act would be a failure. JACK NORWORTH-Monologues 14 minutes in one. This is Mr. Norworth's second appearance this season and I feel sure he is going fully as well as he did during his last engagement. Mr. Norworth is quite a favorite here and always introduces some local stuff that goes big. ST. ONGE BROS. 14 minutes, fulls tage. Wood. Comedy Bicycle Riders. This is a very good act of the kind but I do not think we will want any bicycle acts for some time to come unless it would be an act like the Kaufmann Troupe or something sensational on the order of Hill & Sylvani. THE WOODWARDS-Rural Comedy Sketch Artists. 3 shows. 15 minutes. Wodd. Set house. This is a very fair act for the three show section. KINETOGRAPH-Presenting "The Japanese at War". This is a very good picture and is pleasing our patrons very much. J.P.Harris.
