62 CRITICISM NEW YORK SHOW: WEEK JANUARY 23rd, 1905: DOHERTY'S POODLES: NH-3: A very neat act. The dogs make a pretty picture. Well trained, and an excellent opening act. Full stage, 18 minutes. ROSE LEE TYLER: HR-3: Young colored woman, singing ballads. Good voice, and at the price, a very good act for the 3-a-day. 11 minutes, Drop in one. BARR & EVANS: ER-3: Man and woman in a character comedy sketch. The act is about the same as presented here before. Quite a number of laughs being obtained in the peculiar character costume of the woman. From a three-a-day standpoint, the act is a good one, although I should think it was about time they secured another act. 17 minutes, Full stage. BISSETT & SCOTT: NH-3: Two young men, working straight, with a little singing, talking and dancing. Their singing don't amount to much, and their jokes are old, the strong-hold being the dancing, which was strongly applauded. 9 minutes, Street in one. ROATINO & STEVENS: GNH-2; Two young women in a singing and dancing character act. They carry their own scenery as before, although only use one canopy with the stereopticon views for the illustrated songs, shown at the top of the room, from the rear of the stage, which makes it impossible to set anything back of their scenery. While the act is fully as good as before and went well, it failed to make the impression. Own scenery in two, occupy full stage. 17 minutes. C.W. LITTLEFIELD: NH-2: The well known mimic and comedian. Nothing new in the act, but he managed to hold them and secure the greatest number of laughs up to this time. 22 mins. Drop in one. La ESTRELLITA: GNH-2: Young woman, assisted by Signor Gabardon. Spanish singer and dancer. This act is rather a disappointment. Her costumes elegant. The singing in Spanish doesn't amount to anything. She sings two songs, then gives us a few steps in dancing; her assistant joins her, playing the tamborine in native costume. At NH and three shows it would be a good act for an early place on the program, but at this salary, never. 10 minutes, full stage. LOUISE DRESSER (with Jack Norworth) Singing comedienne. Splendid appearance, singing some very good ballads. Very well received. Drapery in 1, 12 minutes, 2 shows. Fire Works: Showing only the fire-works going off, sky-rockets, roman candles & etc. Quite an idea and is hand painted. splendid film. Drop in one, 20 minutes. S.K. HODGDON.
