122 CRITICISM NEW YORK SHOW: MARCH 13th, 1905: V. P. WOODWARD:- Tamborine manipulator. Open in two, can work in one, 3 shows, 10 minutes. Nothing sensational; pleasing little act to open the show. NAT GILL:- Ventriloquist. Full stage, closes in one, 3 shows, 16 minutes. The ventriloquial part of his act is not much; too much sameness. Uses several mechanical figures which is his strong-hold. The act is only fair, in fact, the weakest number on the bill. Will cut him down to 12 minutes, and have him open the show MABEL ADAMS:- Disappointed, and just as well satisfied, as I have plenty of show. COTURE & GILBERT:- Two men, acrobatic comedy. Full stage, 3 shows, 8 minutes. Always a pleasing little act for the three-show section. HUGHES & HAZLETON:- Two men, in burlesque travesty. Work in one, 3 shows, 20 minutes. Have a lot of new material, and very funny on the start off. Received a big laugh during the entire act. MR. & MRS. PERKINS FISHER:-Presenting the rural comedy sketch "The Halfway House". Well known. They held their own and received as many laughs as before, although it is about time they shelved this vehicle. Wm. H. WINDOM:- Blackface, in his well known character of the 'nurse girl'. Drop in 1, 2 shows, 17 minutes. He has a lot of good material and managed to keep them laughing during his entire act. He is all right to head the two-show class. SIX MUSICAL CUTTYS:-Three men and two women. Open full stage, close about 3 minutes in one. 2 shows, 24 minutes. Received advance applause. Every number strongly received. Responded to three encores. The hit of the show. ADELAIDE HERRMANN & CO:-Magic and illusion. Full stage, 2 shows, 28 minutes. Received some applause for her work, but not as much as I anticipated. The act is nicely presented and makes a beautiful picture, but she certainly does bungling work and is receiving entirely too much money. KELLY & VIOLETTE:- Man and woman. 2 shows, Drop in 1, 15 minutes. In a straight singing act, with numerous changes of costume. The woman displays some magnificent gowns. Very favorably received. "Mischievous Midget", Good comedy. "A Gigantic Achievement", Showing a Foundry scene Very instructive. "Golden, The Magician", Good. S. K. HODGDON.
