149 CRITICISMS: NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF APRIL 17th '05 [1905]. "Zano," Magician. Makes a fairly good appearance, a bad talker but manages to do a few tricks and receives a little applause. For an opening act it is alright. Drop in one, three shows, 13 minutes. Majestic Trio, "Real Coons," two men and a woman, good singers and dancers, rather snappy, plenty of ginger, with some good comedy, fully able to go down a little further. Three shows, Street in one, 16 minutes. Ferrell Brothers, Comedy Cyclists, with some good trick riding. An excellent act for the three a day section. Received a number of laughs and were strongly applauded for their work. 12 minutes, three shows; full stage. Stevenson & Bissett. Two young men, singing and dancing. They are only fair singers, but their dancing was greatly appreciated. Very pleasant act for the three show class. Drop in one, 10 minutes, three shows. Carew & Hayes, Two young women in a vocal number, introducing character singing with a musical tableaux. They make good appearance, dress nicely and have elegant voices. Each number was well received and their singing novelty "The Derby Race," was strongly applauded. Drop in one, three shows, 16 minutes. Pat Rooney & Marion Bent, This is one of the best acts this young man has ever given us and it went big with the regulars, one of the hits of the show. Full stage, can close in one, 18 minutes. ["Treloar? Troloar?], Assisted by Edna Tempest. Physical culture exhibition. Nicely dressed, applauded throughout. Two shows, 12 minutes, drop in two. Al Lawrence, Storyteller, ventriloquist and mimetic comedian. This fellow has a few new bits to the act, the balance of his number is old, however, by the manner in which he was received to-day would lead one to believe this was his first American appearance. He had them from start to finish and scored one of the hits of the show. Three shows, 20 minutes. Drapery in one.
