167 PHILADELPHIA SHOW, MAY 1ST'05. H. A. DANIELS. BENNET & RICH-ER-3-Two men, sketch "The German Recruit." Cross-fire talking act, the Dutchman being quite a comedian in a small way. Good little three-show act for the early bill. Cut out verse of song "When the landlady died we had to sneak" and verse on "hip pads." 10 mins. in one. CLAFLIN SISTERS-NH-3-Character songs and stories. Very weak act. Should not be booked for this house again. The audience would not listen to them, much less applaud. 14 mins. in one. ADER TRIO-SR-3-Two boys and a man. Club jugglers. A good little sight act for the money. This act had to be put in for the entire re-arrangement of the show. 9 mins. Gar. in 4. LEONARD & DRAKE-NR-3-Man and woman. Man gives imitations of animals, and is a mimic. They attempt some real acting that they term a sketch. Not worth a cent more than they are getting, and should be on very early in the three show section. Not a very strong act. 15 mins. C.D.F. in 3. Close in one. CLIFF GORDON-GHR-2-Dutch monologue. Uses a new drop representing a saloon, which does not just fit in a Keith house. His talk received laughs in spots, and on the whole he went well. Good act in one for this house if on before 3 and 9. 13 mins. Special in one. A NIGHT IN VENICE-YRR-2-Two men and a woman. Singing act. Received the first real applause in the show. A very good act for this house. Every number was liberally applauded, and the act closed very strong. 12 mins. Spec. in 3. IRVING JONES-GRR-2-Coon shouter. Well known on the circuit. Always makes good here if placed right. As good as Ernest Hogan for us--and at half the money. Very good. 16 mins. in one. ALBERT CHEVALIER-. Every number was applauded. If he draws the business he did last week, he will have proved an excellent and wisely chosen attraction. Takes from six to twelve bows at every performance. 21 mins. Spec. in 2. HILL & WHITAKER-GSR-2-Man and woman. Playing banjo, violin and harp, and singing. A good musical act. Was liberally applauded and went well in a very hard spot. Took four bows. Very good act. 15 mins. in one. RYAN & RICHFIELD-YMH-2- Doing their old sketch "Mag Haggerty's Father." Went as well as ever. Nearly every sentence received a laugh. A very good act. Cut out "damn" twice. 30 mins. Fancy in 3 JAS. J. MORTON-YHR-2-Monologue. Well known on the circuit. Good act. Caused us no end of trouble by refusing to follow Chevalier, and compelling us to change the whole show and hire an extra act. 14 mins. in one. SPISSELL BROS. & MACK-GHR-2-Three men, comedy acrobatic act--and a good one--very good one. First time here, and we want them again in the fall. 11 mins. C. D. F. in 3. BIOGRAPH-Relay Races, good (local); A Bargain Day Rush, Good; Moulding by Machinery, fairly interesting; Childrens' Hour on the Farm, very good for the children; A Trip to the Summit of the N.Y. Times Building, very interesting; The Clown's Revenge, Good trick picture.
