172 (F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of May 8, 1905 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Usual selection of home and foreign views. Baker and Robinson, 3 shows, 12 min. in 2--First time here. Man and woman who do a little of everything, most of it poor, the woman is the better of the two. Went fairly well. Only fair value for the 3-show section. Hal Clements, 3 shows, 15 min. in 1--First time here. Monologue and singing comedian. His work is not of much value even for the 3-show section. Could do very well without him. Marvelous LePage, 3 shows, 14 min. full stage-- Novelty jumper. Went very well as all acts of this kind do in this house. Excellent act from the 3-show viewpoint. Campbell and Caulfield, 3 shows, 15 min. in 1--Irish talking and singing comedians. Their talk is bright and songs good. Excellent act for the 3-show section. Carleton Macy and Edna Hall, 2 shows, 23 min. full stage--First time here. In the comedy sketch, "A Timely Awakening", one of the brightest little sketches seen here for some time. The piece is capitally acted, Miss Hall being especially good. Went exceedingly well and could easily go further down the bill. Roy Alton and Lillian Thelma, 3 shows, 15 min. in 1--Pleasing singers in operatic selections. The last song from "Il Trovatore" took the house; every selection encored. Excellent act for the 3-show section. Eddie Girard and Jessie Gardner, 2 shows, 23 min. full stage--In a comedy, singing and dancing sketch, "Dooley and the Diamond". Got a good hand on the entrance. Too well known on the circuit to need comment from me--a scream. Went as though they never saw it before. Orpheus Comedy Four, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1--"In Fifteen Minutes of Fun and Vocalism". Got a good reception on their entrance. We were to have had the Empire Quartet for this place, but were disappointed at the last moment on account of illness. The Orpheus Comedy Four filled the place most acceptably. Won considerable applause. George B. Snyder and Harry Buckley, 2 shows, 25 min. open in 3, close in 1-- Got a good reception on their entrance. Musical comedians Too well known on the circuit to need description from me. Went excellently. 1. An Electric Rotary. Interesting. 2. The Blacksmith's Daughter. Good fake; a story on the Laura Jean Libbey type. 3. A Jag a la Francaise. Good comedy picture. 4. A Yard of Puppies. Excellent picture for women and children. Comment:- The show is a good one, Miss Loftus being one of those "legitimates" that make good. The 3-show material is not up to the standard, but in the 2-show section they certainly make up. If it is possible to get big business in here this week, Miss Loftus's name and her excellent performance today will certainly do it.
