4 4 Cleveland Show, Week of April 30, '06 (H. A. Daniels.) Lavine & Leonard---2 men. Juggling and dutch comedy, using a prop automobile. The work of the juggler was very bad this afternoon, he missed nearly every trick he tried. He may work off his sea-legs before the night show. Hope so. Fair act. 13 min. Gar. in 4. Overture--3 min. Fred Eckhoff & Anna Gordon---Man an woman, in a comedy musical act. Their stuff is fair, but they could not arouse any enthusiasm today. Anyone could not for that matter, for it was one of the frostiest audiences that I have ever seen in this house. This act did 22min. C.D.F/Close in one Close in one. Chas. Prelle's Dogs---These dogs are made up to represent horses, elephants, etc. a number of the audience sat up and began to take notice. Theact is a good one, and a novelty. It did not receive much applause today, but today does not count. 11 min. F.S. Paul Barnes--Offered his familiar monologue in tramp makeup. One would have thought there was a parade of ice wagons passing the theatre, to judge by the temperature. Barnes is just as good as he ever was, and under ordinary conditions would go well. Drop in one 15 min. Emmet Corrigan & Co.--Sketch "The Card Party." Five people, three men and two women. This a serious dramatic setch, with a glass smashing fight similar to the one in "Pals." However, this act ends by the whole action of the sketch turning out to be a dream, and although a murder is apparently committed it does not leave a bad taste in the mouth. A good act. Interior in 3 1/2. 27 min. Kinetograph---The witches revenge. A fairy picture. This picture was put in here because MissSimpson could sing but two minutes in one, to strike the heavy Corrigan set, and make her own interior set in three. Cheridah Simpson---Prima donna. Gave the same act that she presented in this house earlier in the season. After 13 minutes the audience seemed thoroughly satisfied. I doubt if the act went as well as on its previous presentation. Open in one two min. Interior in three, Close in one Bert Leslie-Robert Dailey & Co.---3 men and one woman, When Leslie came off after the act he said was of the opinion that he heard someone laugh. Dailey said he was wrong. Under ordinary conditions the act would be a scream. Nothing doing today. [D.? C.?]D.F.3. Close in one. 20 min. Bessie Valdare Troupe--5 girls and one boy. This act cannot be compared with the Kaufman Troupe, of the Six Proveanies. It is not as god an act in any particular. The tricks are very ordinary. The troupe did not work at all well. 13 min. F.S. Comment--Today witnessed the opening of the baseball season in Cleveland. The sun shone, and the theatre starved to death. At one time I thought of asking our audience if he would go out and have a cigar, but as he seemed about to laugh at something, I resisted the temptation. The audience was small and cold, and the result was that the show dragged.
