May 7, 1906 C.E. Barns HPHILADELPHIA SHOW. SUPPLEMENTERY REPORT. Melville Ellis:- Immense improvement in this man's work through transposition on the bill. Indeed, he made an unqualified hit. Gave four encores, the last two accompanied by a whistling chorus in the gallery, a la Emma Carus. This man was somewhat of a surprise to us, as we did not realize from previous reports that he was so strong He is a particularly valuable feature for the box section. Moving Pictures of San Francisco Disaster:- By placing this feature in the centre of the bill it gave the whole bill strength, and emphasized their importance. They held the audience quite spellbound last night. As the earliest authentic pictures to be seen here are advertised for Saturday next, we beat out all competitors bu six days. R.F. Outcault:- By changing his place on the bill the effect was immensely improved. There is nothing in the nature of a scream in this man's humorous work, out out he has a most polished and untheatric manner and his talk is good. He is distinctly a box feature and a drawing-card for the children. The papers all give him the top of the column this morning showing that he made a good impression with the very unconventionality of his work. I think he would be good for any house on the Circuit, but for once only. He will improve as the week foes on, for he will gain confidence and win his audience quicker. The general verdict was satisfaction Brown, Harris & Brown:- Went even better in the evening. Katie Barry:- Same as the above. Took one curtain call after another until finally compelled to tell the audience that she "did'nt know another thing to do". She is a winner all right. Glose of Death:- New and brilliant costuming this week. Man seems to have gained confidence and is more thrillingly reckless than ever. Our only fear is that some screw or nut will work loose and he will break his neck before the week is out. Newspaers more glowingly favorable in their reports this morning than for a very long time.
