20 20 MAY 21, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW C. E. BARNS. FRANCIS WOOD, The Man with the Hoops:- 10 min. F. S. 3 shows. Well known on the Circuit and quite up to the standard as an opener. Some of his feats got a hand and there was some applause at the finish. Is O.K. to open the house. SMITH & BAKER, Eccentric Comedians:- 13 min. in 1. 3 shows. There is nothing in this act except the dancing that is sufficiently good to carry it along. The lines are weak and the comedy work very mild, receiving only a few scattered laughs. Act is a little too long for such slender material. Just about holds the place. Fair hand at the finish. ETHEL CLIFTON & COMPANY, "Bill Barkay's Baby":- 17 min. F. S. 3 shows. This comedy plays on the mistaken paternity of a servant's child and is very well conceived and logically carried out. Miss Clifton is easily the whole thing. There are quite a number of laughs through the farce and the climax is especially good. Altogether one of the best 3-a-day farces that we have ever had. Could stand a much better place on the bill. Finsih very good. "WISE MIKE", Foster's Dog:- 12 min. in 1. 3 shows. Dog that performs a number of feats, including arithmetical work, ringing bells and other stunts. The act is novel in a way, and holds the attention of the audience. It is a very acceptable 3-a-day feature. VAN AUKENS, Bar act:- 13 min. F. S. 3 shows. One of the oldest and best in the 3-a-day bar acts. Each one of their feats got a good hand, and held the interest throughout and the final feat won big applause. This is an A.I. act for this place on the bill. WILLIE AND EDITH HART, Refined Singing and Dancing Act:- 15 min. in 1. 3 shows. This feature was an agreeable surprise. We expected that it would be very tame, but in reality it held the interest of the audience to the end. The songs are new and rendered with grace. Same may be said of the dancing. The woman is very pretty and dressed in a very fetching costume. Very acceptable in the 3-a-day section. Close was good. BROCKMAN, MACK & BELMONT, "The Count on Mother's Account":- 20 min. F.S. 2 shows. This is a very good sketch, full of humor and music. The musical numbers are strongly applauded and the laughs were frequent. The laughing song at the finish was a scream. The sketch is made up of two old sketches but the work of Mack is particularly strong in humor. Miss Belmont is equally accomplished. She is a very pretty woman with a charming voice and personality. As they did not close in 1, there was a disagreeable wait afterwards, to set THE FORDS.
