2. figure ought to insure a cycle star of the highest order, whereas Palfrey is nothing approaching it. SABEL JOHNSON, "The World's Highest Soprano":-12 min. in 1. 2 shows. Makes a very pleasing appearance with a stunning costume. Received small advance hand. Her songs are not new, but all three of them got a good hand. Her imitation of the flute is very fetching. In fact, she was in fine singing form to-day and the final number, "Swanee River" medley as an encore, was pretty nearly an ovation. JOHN and BERTHA GLEESON and FRED HOULIHAN, Potpourri of Dance and Music:- 16 min. F. S. cl. in 1. 2 shows. Advance applause. Well known on the Circuit. The Gleesons appear in three changes of costume, all of which are very stunning. The dancing went as strong as ever, particularly Bertha Gleeson's which was expert and skilful as ever. The applause was liberal and the close in 1 was all that could be desired. Houlihan's work fills in very well, although there is nothing particularly brilliant about it. CHARLES HOWARD, Hebrew Comedian:- 12 min. in 1. 2 shows. Small advance hand. This man has only a fair line of talk, but he has something of a personality and it goes. Received an encore. Just about holds down this spot. May go better to-night. MR. and MRS. SIDNEY DREW, "When Two Hearts Are Won":- 23 min. F.S. 2 shows. This is a very clever little sketch and presented with all the humor and spirit it deserves. The story is that of a bride more in love with her dog than husband, and given to paroxysms of temper. On advice of her uncle, her meek husband turns tables on her after the manner of Pertuccio. There are many clever lines, and the finish, with the furniture smashing and the final relinquishment of the dog in favor of the husband, is very humorous. Do not think this will bring very tremendous patronage, a la Hilliard, but will hold its own with the general public for Drew has a multitude of friends here. JACK WILSON & Co. in, "An Upheaval in Darktown":- 18 min. in 1. 2 shows. Two men and a woman doing blackface. This act has been much improved since I saw it here some weeks ago, but still is rather coarse. And must be toned down considerably to suit our audience. The costuming is very acceptable, and the talk is lively, but inclined to be broad. There are a good many laughs and the finish was good. They will have to go further up the bill as the cannot properly hold down such an important place as this. EIGHT ALLISONS, Acrobats and Tumblers:- 16 Min. F.S. 2 shows. This is the same brilliant and artistic feature that made such a hit here last Fall. It is all that could be desired from high-class European act of the sort, and received constant applause. The small boy athlete made quite a hit with his little touches of comedy, and supplied some of the very best acrobatic work ever seen on this stage.
