53. F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, WEek of July 2, 1906 Fadettes, 2 shows, 50 min. full stage--The best program selections they have ever given us; could hardly be improved upon. Every selection strongly encored, and with the closing piece, the national anthem, everybody rose and applauded heartily. Jack Wilson Trio, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1--Man and woman, singers, dancers etc.. Have been described and commented upon in the other houses. They started off decidedly as if they were going to be a "frost", but they turned out to be just the act for the spot. The comedian of the team is the real merit of the act. Had them laughing all through and they got a tremendous hand at the finish. Cut "You big fool". Buch Brothers, 3 shows, 10 min. full stage--Two men, made up as sailors, in bounding table and acrobatic specialties. This act was a very agreeable surprise getting lots of laughs, and from the 3-a-day standpoint, it can be considered a good act. They do nothing really startling, but filled this spot very creditably. Emma Carus, 2 shows, 12 min. in 1--Big advance reception. She sang four songs, the first going rather tame, but she got them with her coon song scoring repeated encores and closed to a big hand. Her voice is nothing to brag of, and, at even the present high salaries, I do not consider her worth the figure she is getting. Julie Ring and Company, 2 shows, 16 min. in 3--In the comedy sketch "A Quiet Life". Miss Ring is a Boston girl, and of course, that helped her. While the sketch started off a little slow, and did not create any tremendous hit, it pleased mightily, and I would consider it a good act if not too far down on the bill. Delmore and Oneida, 3 shows, 11 min. in 1--In their well-known Japanese perch act. Needs no comment from me. Went very well in this spot giving just the balance the show needed. Edwin Stevens, 2 shows, 29 min. open in 3, close in 1--In his well-known skit, "A Night Out". Got a big advance reception. There is considerable that is now in Stevens' offering this year and some that is old. The girl, is not clever, but still she is good enough for the part she has to play. Stevens I consider one of the most versatile and artistic comedians in vaudeville, and I express my opinion in this matter merely because I believe the audience coincides with it. Palfrey and Hoefler, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--Comedy and trick cyclists. Have been commented upon in other houses. I should not care to have this act in the midwinter season, but I suppose it would pass during the summer season. Not strong enough to close but I will pass it out in that spot this week. workers and from the 3-a-day standpoint, are all right. Comment:- While the show has little of the big material of last week, it is a very satisfactory one, being well balanced and everybody seemed pleased. We had a cloudy day and as a consequence, a very good Monday afternoon audience, and I see no reason why it should not continue with good weather.
