Phila. 3. BOUTIN & TILLSON, Musical instruments in barnyard setting:- 17 min. F.S. 3 shows From the New York criticism I was prepared to bury this act, and it was deserving of all the obsequies it received at our hands. They may pull up the act a little later, but it does not really seem possible. One of their musical stunts is to run a series of concealed wires into the auditorium, by the aid of which they ring bells in different parts of the house and play a coherent melody. The thing is perfectly obvious and after the first two or three notes the interest awakened immediately disappears. Their fence-xylophone was so bad that at least a dozen people got up and left the theatre. These people have a small idea of time and tune, and could give their act five hours hard work a day for several months before it could be pulled up to the required standard. GENERAL REMARKS:- In this show is seen another instance wherein promises on paper do not altogether materialize. The Six Sophomores is a good act for its purpose,--to "bark" a musical publishing house (and their professional claqueurs were out in force to-day and earned their four bits deservingly, the same as they did for Gus Edwards' act last week), but the girl-act is being so overdone and the lack of training and finish is so evident that the most alluring part of this feature was its price. Brown & Nevarro failed to show up, and as they had not sent photographs and press matter in advance, it was only too evident that they had no intention of being here. By re-arrangement of the bill we shall save the day and keep the good houses with which we have been blessed of late. Even then there is no one feature on our bill this week that people will go away and talk about. The cuts were unimportant, being a request to tone down the kissing-act in the SOPHOMORES, and an order to douse a local-celebrity--"Dr. Manyon"--who does'nt need the adv. The following is the bill revised:- Boutin & Tillson...6:45 Myers & Ross...8.02 Evelyn Sisters...7.14 Grace Childers...7.25 Arthur Deagon & Co....7:40 Marley & Moran...7:58 Sophomores & Fresh Man...8.02 Edsal & Forbes ...8:24 Bailey & Fletcher...8:45 Nellie Beaumont & Co....9:00 Zazell-Vernon Co....9:20 Toy Claude...9:35 St Onge Brothers...9:52 Kinetograph...10:15 10:30.
