83 New York Criticism--July 23rd, 1906 JOSIE & WILLIE BARROWS: Excellent opening act. Full of life. Singing don't amount to much, but they managed to secure big applause for their dancing. Good three-show number. 8 min. in one FITZGERALD & GILDAY: 2 men. Talking and singing comedy. Some of their material is old, but they delivered it in pretty good shape, getting quite a number of laughs. Alright for an early place. 13 min. in one- 3 shows CUNNINGHAM & SMITH: Man and woman. In a comedy sketch, entitled:-"The Shoplifter". Man impersonates a policeman, while the woman is the victim. Man's acrobatic work and funny falls is the strongest feature in the act. Encore in one of the trained dog secured some few laughs. Act is thoroughly alright for an early place. 15 min.-full stage- closed in one about 2 min.-3 shows MYERS & ROSA: Man and woman. Disc Manipulators. Well known over the circuit. Little nervous on the start, dropping a lot of the "props." Recovered later on and managed to obtain some little applause. 10 min. - full stage- 3 shows AL BURTON: Singing comedian. This man got them on the start, his vocal numbers going very big, making the applause hit of the show up to this time. 15 min. in one- 3 shows EDSALL & FORBES: Presenting the one-act comedy:-"The Two Rubies." Little tame on the opening, but later on developed into a good laughing number. Act is thoroughly alright if not on too late. 19 min.-full stage- 2 shows FLO ADLER: Singer of Popular Songs. This woman makes a very pleasing appearance and has a fairly good voice. Her selections are very good. She uses a young man sitting in the box to sing the chorus with her. In her song, entitled, "Jealous", the boy made a bigger hit than Miss Adler. 12 min. in one- 2 shows SADI ALFARABI: Equilibrist. This young man makes a fair appearance and goes through a series of remarkable balancing feats, each one getting fairly good applause. He closed the act while balancing on a high pedestal being illuminated with various colors of incandescent lights and with the dark house, makes a very pretty effect and carried him off to good applause. 11 min.-full stage- 2 shows As usual, this act was the applause hit of the show this afternoon. Their conversation was a laugh from start to finish and the singing a scream, the audience never tiring of their parodies. 17 min. 1 4 RIANOS: 3 men and a woman. Two men impersonating monkeys. In their original comedy novelty:-"In Africa." Well known over the circuit. Secured quite a number of laughs throughout. Good closing act. 13 min.-full stage- KINETOGRAPH: "A Glutton taken for a Thief" French comedy film. Fairly good "Scenes at West Point & Military Academey" Very instructive. Interesting. Good "An Adventurous Automobile Trip" Rather fakey, but amuses
