84 New York Criticism--August 20th, 1906 MUSICAL HUEHN: Well known, Comedy don't amount to much. Musical ability fair. Rather inoffensive, but alright for an opener. 14 min. in two- 3 shows ALPHA TRIO: 2 men and a woman. Carry their own drop. Act has improved a little. Some little applause throughout. Alright for an early place.-11 min.-full stage- 3 shows LYRIC TRIO: 2 men and a woman. Well know. Woman in this act is new and I think the voice is just as good, although her personality is only fair. The selections are thoroughly alright, each one being strongly applauded. Fully capable of holding down a better place. 13 min. in one 3 shows BILLY BROAD: It is strange how this man got around to New York. He is far from being funny professionally--personally, he is a scream. Some of his material is new and alright for the Mountain Circuit. What he has old, is so old that it is not funny. He finishes with a song and dance supposed to be an imitation of a Southern darkey, which allows him to make his exit quietly from the stage. 11 min. in one- 3 shows HEDRIX & PRESCOTT: Well known. Singing don't amount to much. Dancing received some little applause. Generally goes fairly good here. 11 min ST. ONGE BROS: The strongest part of this act, the critics say, is their encore in one with the assistance of two property boys, which received the most laughs. Their cycle work is fairly good, while the comedy is not much. Encore in one gave them a strong finish. 16 min.-full stage-closed in one about 4 min.- 2 shows THATCHER & ERNEST: This act is on the idea of Mitchell & Marron, only they carry more chairs. Ernest is the interlocutor, Thatcher as the end-man with the tamborine, while "Mr. Imaginary" takes care of the "Bones". I think it is going to develop into a good comedy in time. Act contains some bright lines, which scored several strong laughs. Easily the laughing hit of the show up to this time. 22 min. in two- closed in one about 8 min.- 2 shows MORAN, BAKER & CO: 3 men and a woman. Presenting the sketch:-"The Man and a Boy." Scene opens first in a broker's office,-then a plain stage showing the back of a college-ground and finishes on a dark stage with the aid of the Kinetograph showing the foot-race scene. Act is quite talky and with very few laughs, although there is a little element of novelty to it. I presume it will be alright to play once over the circuit. the same dummies as he worked in his original production. The lines and business of the act are about the same. Still has the famous battle-scene for the finish. Act went fairly good and held this spot down in good shape. 17 min.-full stage- closed in one about 4 min CARON & FARNUM: 2 men. One working straight, the other eccentric. Acrobatic comedy. Comedy work is very good, while the trick work received a big lot of applause. Excellent closing act. 10 min.-full stage KINETOGRAPH: "Kathleen Mavoureen." Interesting. Very good "The Tenant's Revenge" Good comedy
