113 Report on show Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of September 17, 1906. (Charles Lovenberg, Manager.) The show in its entirety is a good one, but by no means compares with the admirable bill presented last week and lacks in drawing power qualities of last week's show; however, I believe it will please those who see it. Zara & Stetson. Baton whirlers. These people have a very effective setting and wear nice costumes and do probably as much as can be done with an act of this kind, which I do not believe interests the audience very greatly. It is all right for an early opener in the 3-a-day section. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Texarkana & Walby. Two women, singers and dancers,--The dancing of which is the feature of the act and which is very good from the standpoint of salary, etc. 12 min. in one, 3 shows. Willie Western. This fellow gets by principally upon the fact that he boldly takes the best work of several well-known comedians and which he calls "imitations." The imitations are not at all true to nature, but the stories being funny they go. I rather think it is a mistake for him to do this for the best thing that he did was an Italian song which was not an imitation. He has a good voice, fair personality, and with the right material I think would be an acceptable act without so boldly cribbing other peoples stuff. 14 min., am opening in two, but the act really belongs in one in one, 3 shows. Durant Trio. Well-known over the circuit, doing the same act they did last year with one change of selection. 11 min. in one, 3 shows. Cherry & Batos. Bicycle act, well known for comment. Went fairly. well. 19 min. full stage, 3 shows. Mabel Sinclair. The fact of this being a woman makes the act something of a novelty, altho her work is by no means startling or her stories very funny. 12 min. in one, 2 shows. Julie Ring & Co. The Company, being a Mr. Sargeant whose work would decidedly bear improvement and he ought to, at least, have his clothes pressed, if he can't afford another suit. The act went fairly well with yesterday's audience. 16 min. full stage, 2 shows. Morrow & Shellberg. The man of this act is distinctly clever and the act promised at the opening to be a big hit, but from the time the woman came on the stage, it let down materially, altho with her assistance the "Cheyenne" song, by the introduction of a little novel finish, pulled them up fairly well again. If the man had one other song or feature as good as his first two openers the act would be better by him alone than with the assistance of the woman; however they do very nicely, if not depended upon for later than 8.30. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows. Steely, Doty & Coe. These people did very nicely partially due to the fact that they are new here. Coe is pretty near the whole thing as he does the comedy as well as the best of the musical work. Steely is a fair "straight" man and Doty amounts to very little in "Olympic Games at Athens"--Good. "An Evil Day"--very funny.
