121 Sept. 24, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E. BARNS. THE PRYORS, Singing and dancing:- 15 min. C.D.F. in 2. 3 shows. On at 1:02--5:03--6:32. Man and woman both of good address, and making very passable opener. Vary their singing and dancing with selections on the banjo and mandolin. The man's work on the harmonica and mandolin at the same time was very neat. The wooden shoe dancing at the finish got a curtain call. Altogether this is a very nice little act. DALE & ROSSY, German Comedians:- 14 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 1:17--5:17--6:46. Two men in the regulation Joe Weber costume. The line of talk is only fairly good and the singing is below the average. Held down this early place quite well, but could not go lower successfully. got a good hand at the finish. MLLE BELLE VEOLA, Song and Acrobatic:-9 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 1:30--5:30--7:00. This is a pretty girl who lacks a certain amount of grace, but at the same time a very skilful contortioniste. Her singing is not up to the standard and the dancing is more in the nature of contortion work than straight dancing. The final stunt, passing through three rings at the same time, got a good hand. This act must be dressed differently to make a more pleasing appearance, as the Mother-Hubbard style of gown did not do at all. Held the place and went off to some comforting applause. Good act for an early place on the bill, but would never do farther down. THREE COATES, Comedy Sketch:- 22 min. F.S. (cl. in 1.) 3 shows. On at 1:40--5:38--7:10. Three people, -man in a Frenchman make-up, a woman working straight, and precocious child. The kid in this act is the whole thing. The woman does not know how to act, and the man as a French butler does not know how to conduct himself on the stage. The child takes the part of the round-about-town sport. There were some scattered laughs in the act, but the good work did not make up for the poor. The work in 1, at the close, received a fair hand, but more, I fancy, through sympathy than anything else. The little girl quite took the house because of her natural genius, and got a recall, but her support is painfully weak. The girl will yet do some big things if not handicapped as she was to-day. WALTER DANIELS, Impersonations:- 14 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 2:02--5:58--7:32. Well known on the Circuit. Received some hearty advance applause. His impersonations are the same as he has done here previously. Much interest is added by his making up on the stage in view of the audience, with a good line of talk accompanying. Each one of his impersonations got a good hand. That one of Dave Warfield being new, was particularly well received. Closed good. ROYAL MUSICAL FIVE, Mirth and Song:- 19 min. F.S. (Cl. in 1). 2 shows. On at 2:16--7:46. Four men and a young girl, all making a good presentation. Two changes of costume. Feature of the parlor variety, very neat and pleasing. The girl's voice, though very sweet and true, is not strong enough to fill a big house like this. The singing numbers were not as strong as the instrumental features, with violin, orchestra, viola, 'cello, flute and banjo. chance for nine pretty girls to display their talents. The music is very catchy and of a better class. I think there is no doubt of the success of this act with evening audiences, particularly, and the marionette scene especially pleased the children. The close was not as strong as I expected, but it is an act to be enjoyed all through. One curtain call. O.K. in this place (supper) section. REMARKS,-Show as a whole below our standard, being deficient in the three-a-day section and lacking a good closing feature,-something that will make people talk. Too many musical specialties and deficient in sight-acts. Early section goes slowly, the audiences waking at about eight o'clock, from which point it runs well to the close. Weather ideal and business big.
